Weather thus far

Definitely less than ideal for our parts, but the only thing that has sucked azz more for us is the gobbling and turkey sightings, basically nil. It is the 2nd worst season I can remember in the last 15, with 2009 being the worst for turkey sightings, gobbling and kills for the areas we typically hunt. We plan to relocate and try our luck elsewhere the remainder of the season, hopefully the birds will be more plentiful and the weather more cooperative.

I hate to hear that. While the gobbling certainly is down, our turkey numbers appear to be way up this year on our property in east Tennessee. I've also noticed a good population of jakes as well.

Me too, but we will adjust accordingly even if it means out of state hunts in the near term.

That is awesome, a good huntable population of turkeys is hard to beat in my eyes. Good luck remainder of the season.

Right, right. It keeps those guys at home so all the serious turkey hunters have the woods to themselves.

Bwahahahahahahaha, yeah the ones at home are the guys who actually kill lots of turkeys while the others fighting the elements go home empty handed more often then not, and make their long term season tougher because of educated birds.

The smart turkey hunters know that the best and most enjoyable hunting is on days when the wind isn't blowing 30mph, it's not pouring rain, and its not snowing.
I agree, not worth crappy weather just because of fewer people. Deer hunting yes but not turkey

IF you can spot them before they spot you hunting the wind can actually be easier cause you can move much easier without being seen. However if you can't call them or work them (which is usually what happens in high winds) just not as fun for me.

FIFY.....and I absolutely agree! Doesn't look to be letting up too much the next few days either unfortunately.

One of the best 4 first days of the season weather-wise in Middle TN we've had in years. Not sure about the past 2 days, but the opening 4 days were just perfect. Light 5mph winds at first light, got up to around 10-15mph during the middle of the day. And no springtime thunderstorms or tornadoes.

The wind doesn't bother me unless it's gusting over 25mph. But I can't stand a heavy rain. Light rains are ok, and I LOVE to hunt just before a supercell comes through, as long as I can kill the bird gobbling at the thunder before the lightening actually gets on top of me.
