Weirdest deer behavior you ever witnessed

Mr. Bro's "no interest in the rut" got me to thinking about odd deer behavior. I guess strangest thing I've seen...many years ago, i was hunting outside of Paducah ky, over a very small food plot. The friend I was hunting with wanted me to kill a specific buck. About an hour before dark, two smaller deer came in. A little while later, an average 7 point buck came in and was feeding too. After 10 or 15 minutes, this friend of mine got the idea to run those deer out of the small food plot to, so there wouldn't be so many eyes if the shooter showed up. So, he starts flailing his arms, waving, jumping up and down to run the three deer off. When he did that, the 7 point buck literally herded those other two smaller deer...circled around the small plot and rounded them up and with his nose, nudged them out of the field before exiting himself. I'd never seen anything like, nor have I since - not a buck doing that...and it was definitely a buck. Course, I've never seen a grown man stand up in a treestand and flail his arms at deer either, so there's that. 😂

I've seen some funny things over the years, but about fours years ago one buck had me a little worried.

He came in after I'd heard him on a hillside thicket locked down with a doe. They eventually moved close enough to me that I got a good look at him and realized that he'd be a better buck the next year, but dang they stayed around forever.

After about six hours on stand I'd had enough. They were far enough away now that I could quietly come down the tree and slip out of there. As soon as my feet hit the ground and I took about a dozen steps away from my tree, I heard a snort-wheeze and here he'd come toward me, then trot back to the bedded doe.

This went on for over a half hour til I made it off the hillside. At one point I wondered if I'd have to shoot in self defense.

Pic of buck that my camera caught that morning. Date on pic is wrong.

He probably would have been good enough that year on my small farm.

Have seen a lot of weird stuff over the 32 years i have been hunting this little farm. One year I watched a coyote and a doe interact, where I later came to the assumption she must have had a fawn nearby. The doe would get about 10-15 yards away from the yote and then walk a little ways away like she was trying to lead it. Then she would come back to it. Probably went on for close to 10 minutes. Eventually the yote went on one way and she went the opposite way.

He looked to be 3.5, ( a few members here concurred) and I really wanted him to make it another year, as seeing older deer with sizable racks has been tough on our farm over the years. He was the busiest buck I've ever seen the whole month of December that year, and was literally on the heels of doe groups every time I saw him.

I never saw him again though, and figured his libido got him killed. He may have charged the wrong hunter!😂😂

I watched 2 fawns chasing each other like kids playing tag. There was a wove wire fence in the area they were playing and they kept going through at full speed. I thought there might have been a gap in the fence. When I went and looked the hole they were going through was about 4" high and 8" long.

Not too weird but funny, 2 different years I have seen yearlings sniffing around and either get stung or something up their nose. Both times they sneezed and had a fit for 10-15 minutes. Hard to actually not laugh out loud.
Another time I shot a nice Tom with my bow. He went about 30 yards and flopped around a bit . His two buddies went over and whooped the hell out of him for a few minutes before they went on their way 😂

I shot and killed a doe one time. I kept hunting. Had a little buck walk up to her later and keep pushing her around with his antlers, trying to rouse her up. She wouldn't budge - but, he wouldn't give up.

Looks a lot like the buck in your profile pic.

I've had several bucks over the years walk up to me while I was trying to sneak into a thicket. I assume because it sounds like another deer walking. But they'll walk up, look at you, and then walk off like they never saw you or don't care that you're there. Only happens during the rut. Just goes to show they really do only have one thing on their mind that time of year.

I had 3 does in a field eating once and one of the younger ones turned its rear end to the other doe and mule kicked her in the jaw then both acted like it never happened and went back to eating

Had two does come into a field a few years back. Lead doe was obviously an older deer and was just milling around. The younger one would hang around the older and then take off at full sprint to a corner of the field and sprint back. Did this 3 - 4 times like it had the zoomies or something :) I watched these deer for about 30 minutes or so with the younger one running around like a spaz. I ended up taking the older doe and she turned out to be 5 1/2 and tested positive for CWD.

About 25 years ago i was hunting with an old cva inline percussion cap gun with a sabot and 200 grn lead bullet. This 6 pt comes outta the cane and i shoot him at about 40 yds, just bang!flop! Just like that. I watch him a min then instead of reloading i start getting my stuff together and as i start down the tree he gets up and takes off dragging a hind leg. I think WTF? I get on down and track him to a fence he jumped but fell on the other side. Thinking i knew he was heading for this swamp thicket i made a big circle ahead of him and started sneaking back real real slow. He comes outtaa corn field at about 40 yds again and the next shot puts him down.
Skinning him the first shot went right through his left femur and flattened as big as a quarter on the right one but not breaking that one. That bang flop on a ham shot was one of the weirdest things id seen, i had no idea how i hit him there and still dont to this day, maybe a limb of vine deflected it cause the gun was dead on on the second shot.🤷🏻
