Anybody have any experience hunting public land in west tennessee for turkeys, only have once and it was not a good experience up at Big Hill Pond so some tips or places to look at would be helpful, thanks

sure would be nice. Nothing but draw hunts as far as I know thats worth it. Tried Chickasaw WMA twice with no luck. but then again I don't know what i'm doing which could be most of it. If you find somewhere shoot me a PM and don't tell anyone else. LOL

I put in for all the draw hunts around here, state and federal, might go out to chickasaw once or twice, looks like I'll be doing alot of fishing

Quota - Shelby Forest, Wolf River WMA, but they had the drawing last Wednesday.

Hatchie NWR pretty good for turkeys? I've driven by it many times -looks complicated for access without a boat.
I would say "fair" in my experience. I go there when I can't hunt the private land I usually hunt. They aren't too vocal. But I messed up on a good one there last year. Lot of land to access as long as the spring rains don't mess you up.

I have hunt The Hatchie a few times, saw several birds out there, never got close to any though, saw quite a few the first few times I was out there but the last couple of times I saw tons of people and no birds

anyone had any luck out at Chickasaw Refuge. I got drawn last year and only hunted one day because it was also the same weekend I got drawn for Wolf River. Only heard a few and got close to one but had 2 other groups of hunters going after the same bird. Can say they have no shortage of skeeters.

I've been to Hatchie, Big Hill Pond, and was drawn 2 years ago for Shelby Forest.

I'm not that good seeing as I've only got 2 ever.

both of them have been on private land.

seen plenty of other hunters each time I go to Hatchie, Chickasaw, or Big hill.

I put it for Wolf River this year, from what I understand thats the draw hunt to be drawn for.

Good luck to ya'll!

For some parts of the Hatchie you would definitely need hip boots or waders but I've never hunted a part of it that I needed to wear any

any of the WMA's in benton county, north side of natchez trace, the federal refuges. gin creek, harmons creek usually has some birds.

You might check into the TN National Refuge around the Interstate. Several birds over there and it used to be open during regular gun season.
