West TN rut

Due to the drought and lack of acorns, our rut was so late that the southern end of my property has just come off lockdown as of opening weekend of gun, and bucks were back on scrapes. The northern half was still on lockdown. We heard some chases in the fog the two mornings of opening weekend, but couldn't see them.

Near Somerville and I'm seeing the same. Funny, not finding any scrapes, but I've watched several bucks make scrapes. Not seeing hardly any real chasing, just young bucks pestering does and some light sparring between them. Figure its going to turn on any day. I killed a buck on Sunday. He was just eating, not paying any attention to nearby does.

I've seen more scrape activity on my place in McNairy Cty than I have ever seen before. No rubs….very little other sign as well. Just a few miles east of Hardeman.
What was your acorn crop like CBU93? I ask, because I've noticed that in poor acorn years, rubbing behavior is extremely muted.

Big increase of activity last couple days in SW Wayne. Had 9 different bucks daytime pics yesterday. IMO it's shaping up to be a real good rut for us, perhaps best in 5-6 years. Had very few acorns this year & they were gone a month ago.

Haven't seen much rut activity in Fayette county at all. Yesterday was the first time I saw chasing and it was just a spike bothering a doe. Literally watched 2.5 year olds feeding with does not even bother to nudge or scent check. Have yet to seen a mature buck.
