Chula is planted in spring and matures in fall. It can feed them year around though if your crop did good enough.
I've not ever planted anything in spring besides chufas. But, they do like some fresh turned dirt. I usually disc some 10 foot of so wide straps in food plots and pastures right before season, and do it again halfway. It brings up grubs and worms, plus hidden seeds.
