I had been looking forward to the convention and was anxious to get some more man toys. I Had a good time with my family for the most part lol. Went 2 days this year instead of 1 and still didn't get to see each booth. Ended up with a few calls I had intended to buy and a few I didn't.
Got to meet up with a few members from here and other forums and Facebook groups. Southern Chick, rbreeding, Catman, Shag, JCaulder , MickThompson and Mr Randall Haley.
Here's my haul from the Convention.
David Halloran Double Glass and Sassy Ceramic. I went for the Double Glass and Metal Mouth but I liked the Ceramic better than the Metal Mouth. David hooked me up with a shirt and a Decal.
AJ Reynolds's Carolina Assassin. I stopped by his booth to play the Ceramic String Music got and it is wicked but I had already gotten David's Ceramic. I just wanted to run it to hear how it compared to the Halloran. While there I played the Carolina Assassin and Tony told me the history on it. I liked the call and it's Nostalgia. It's a fine call in it's on right. It's not a head turner like some that I have but I think its going to have a spot in my vest. My favorite 2 sided call of the 2 I own.
Got the Pothole tree call and the Floodzone waterproof striker from Dead End. These are 2 neat little tools that I look forward to using. The Pothole is so soft and will cluck and purr like crazy. The Floodzone is crazy cool!
Matt McClain Black Locust Striker. Matt can flat turn a call. His strikers handle great to. I'm tickled with the Black Locust.
Hook's Harrison Crow call to pair with my Hoot'N Stick.
Stopped by SS Custom calls to meet Al and Josh after many conversations from Old Gobbler and phone calls. They're fine people and extremely talented in building calls. Bought a scratch Box from them in All mineral stained Black Poplar paired with an Ipe Striker. Al gave me a little crash course on how to use it. It's pure turkey and with practice I would head out with it alone and have confidence that I could kill a bird. Purrs clucks and yelps effortlessly.
Met Sam from Gooserbat and talked a bit and finally shook hands after talks on OG. Super nice fella. Bought my Son a box to play with and myself the Bacon
Got to meet my Facebook friend Jonathon Shull who owns Appalachian Custom calls. His prices and mouth calls are great. I would recommend getting in touch with him and trying them. He's got it going on.
Met another Facebook friend in Lyle at Houndstooth. Had a great visit and can't say enough about his Aluminum pot call and the new Dixie Hen pot call. Both are incredible. Bought his Morning Striker owl hooter as a backup to my Hoot'N Stick on an Impulse buy lol. I've talked myself into listing for sale. In the classifieds shortly. Don't reckon I need two.
My 19 month old is wanting to play with my calls here lately when I'm practicing so we wanted to get him something cheap to play with. Bought the last K&H of 500 pot calls Friday for $5 got him a $5 Crow call and The Gooserbat box call. He thinks he's big stuff now!
I'm ready to get after the turkeys!
