What have your calls narrowed down to?

With the aluminum ones, how much do they have to be roughed up, and do you use sandpaper, sanding sponge, or something like a Scotch-Brite pad?

All I have to do to my Light's Out is wipe it off with an alcohol pad.

Not Settermans but I expect his two look almost identical. Pretty simple overall, but I have heard nothing but great things about them. I plan to break mine in next year to see what the hype is all about.

I have never used an aluminum pot, but do love to use pot friction calls for soft calling. I tried a glass call once, but never could get it prepped right.

I have to rough the Dawkins call up about once a day, I use the green scotch brite on it, and it works fine. I think you would really like ALuminum it is very user friendly, and has a unique break which seems to really get a birds attention.

That is a picture of the Darrin Dawkins call, not much too look at it, but deadly.

I had an Ole Yeller slate call and a HS Strut cuttin 2.5 mouth call that I've used for several years. Somehow I lost the HS Strut after one of the earlier hunts this year and couldn't find one so I went to Academy Sports. A guy in there looking to pointed out an aluminum slate call by Knight & Hale so I bought it and a Primos mouth call that I believe is called Diamond Cutter or something like that. I've been impressed with both.

I can, but there isn't much too it. Plain walnut pot with black oxidized aluminum. It isn't flashy, and if you just saw one on a table it wouldn't catch your eye. However, it has a breaking yelp, and a tone which is absolutely irresistible to most gobblers that hear it. I honestly have never used a call that gets the response that it does. It should be outlawed.

This is also one of my favs. I have one made by Tony Reynolds that sounds awesome. The high pitch yelp breaks into a raspy, throaty yelp towards the end.

Here is a great place to buy calls. Custom made calls are the way to go.
