What Poundage would kill a Deer?

Gil I killed my first bow buck in middle school pulling just 35lbs. On I believe an Alpine Archery compound. I'm a small framed guy so I'm sure my draw length was pretty short, but we cut the arrows long for that reason. I think I was shooting 75 grain wasp or thunderhead fixed blade heads. I shot him at 30 yards and he went 50 before he piled up. Didn't have much of a rack but he dressed 175lbs.
The kids will have to learn to stay away from the shoulder blade, but if they put the arrow where it needs to go they will be just fine.
I never had a complete pass through as a kid but usually when the deer ran off they would kick the arrow with their shoulder and it really tears them up inside.

Now that I think about it I don't think it was middle school, heck I'm not even sure how old middle school is but I'm pretty sure I wasn't driving if that helps

I know of a youngster that killed a few deer pulling 28 lbs. shots were limited to no more than 15 yds.

Gil anything over 30+ pounds with the right broadhead is more than enough to deer hunt with assuming the young man can shoot accurately. The thing with lower poundage is going to be the broadhead. At the lower end of the poundage spectrum stay away from mechanicals and he should be fine. Once again "fine" is going to be controlled by broadhead selection, shot placement, and distance. Long shots are to risky but inside of 25 should be reasonable.
