I made a poll to see what everyone is shooting. I shoot a 12 gauge with 3.5 Winchester Supremes (new double X's) and have been successful. My daughter shoots a 20 gauge with 3 inch Winchester double x's. She is running out of shells and I am debating on the switch to TSS for her. I feel like I am keeping it old school with the lead. We have had success and do not know if the extra distance is needed. Also, I have a hard time paying so much per shot.

I've used the 12 gauge Winchester long beards in 3" number 6 with the magnum 1-7/8oz for a few years. Before that I was a magblends guy, before that I was Winchester extended range HTL guy. Before that I was the Remington Brand hevi-shot the green shells, they were awesome.

Currently I'm using a 16 gauge with remington express long range number 6. Trying to keep my shot within 26-27 yards. Does pretty good at close range.

I normally use 12 gauge 3 inch #6 long beards but I am trying the 3 inch tss #9. I've had good luck with the long beards over the years but so far the tss hasn't disappointed me yet.

I used to use the silver box Winchester too. I shot the #4 and #6. Actually pretty good cheap shells, they did good. I killed several birds at 35 - 40 yards. Also I've been meaning to try my old Win. 37 in 16 gauge. I wish someone loaded 1 1/4 ounce loads. I think I could kill one at 30 yards with it.

:pop: Its hard to beat the Longbeards with a good choke in 12 gauge. I personally don't think you need to TSS in a 12 gauge.

3.5" Longbeard XR #5's, keep shots within 30 yards. Before I had a 3-1/2" gun I used 3" Remington Wingmaster HD's and they were deadly also.

Some of you are gluttons for punishment with those 2 1/4 oz loads!

I've jumped on the TSS bandwagon, but am still trying to use up my "good" old turkey shells,
such as the older Federal Heavyweight #7s.

Killed by first (and probably only) turkey this year
with a 1 1/8 oz load of Federal HW #7s.
Nothing more is needed at 35 yds or less,
and some setups don't allow a shot past that.

I like that TSS produces more uniform patterns,
and via smaller pellets, denser patterns,
which allow one to use a more open choke, i.e. larger patterns.
Makes for a better "close work" turkey gun.

12 gauge Winchester (Blacks and still some reds) 3in. #6's 410 old school Federal and Rem 3in. 7 1/2's If he is beyond 40 steps with my 870 Magnum Wingmaster or 25 steps with my old Model 42 Winchester, he has "won" on that particular set up and will be allowed to walk off. ;)

I've been shooting the federal 12ga 3" #9 TSS last few years.

Probably overkill since I also have not shot a turkey at over 35 yards for the past few years
