Probably overkill since I also have not shot a turkey at over 35 yards for the past few years
Similar here.
Just nice to have even greater margins for error :tu:
I see no reason not to use the TSS.

Many, maybe most, "playing the game" type setups
won't even allow you to see a turkey over 35 yards.
I'm sure that's different in some places.

Federal TSS #9s in 20g for the past 3 seasons. I don't think I will ever change. While it is overkill for 90% of my shots, having the full confidence it will kill one graveyard dead at 40 yards is nice insurance.

The 2nd bird my son shot this last trip we passed the day before at 45 yards where he hung up. The following day, he fully committed right off the limb, but i told him to shoot when he hit 40, as he was going to travel between us and some cows if we allowed him to come 10 yards closer. Unfortunately, he did have 7 or 8 pellet channels through the breast and 1 in the thigh, so we will have to be careful eating that one, even though I think most passed through.

Any reloaders tried polyurethane poured into the shot to mimic the long beard X-R loads. Am I trying something I shouldn't, everyone is sold out.

Don't do much turkey hunting, but the 3 inch remington nitro turkey loads pattern great from the 870 20 gauge my wife and kids use. My 1300, I use 3 inch winchester supreme turkey loads.

If this isn't a pressure tested load, I would advise against it. Adding "stuff" like that to a load that has been tested in the safe range can drastically change the pressure curve. Since a lot of turkey loads are pretty "hot" to start with, you may be getting over in the danger area.

There are turkey loads out there. You just have to look and be quick. Both Rogers Sporting Goods and Mack's P Wings have recently had them for sale.

Any reloaders try to mimic the longbeard xr with resin or urethane, having a hard time finding them, all sold out.

I'm late to the game Winchester longbeard xr 5 shot was all I could find.... I have some old long range express Remington #4 I'll compare to tomorrow.
I'm sure I'll be close range hunting regardless of pattern.

Winchester Long Beard XR, 3-inch, #5's and #6's. These give me good patterns out to 40yds using a Beretta 390 12ga with a 24-inch barrel and Carlson extended .665 turkey choke.

Respectfully, this is a terrible idea. I don't know exactly what Winchester uses for their resin. It's proprietary. But I'm certain it was engineered to shatter/powder when the load discharges, and I'm 1000% sure it was tested to determine the effect on load pressure. If you start pouring polyurethane or generic resins into a shot column you are going to spike pressures and/or create a slug likely to damage your barrel.

If you're set on hand loading, you could just make proven, tested, awesome loads using TSS and the difference in cost would not be that significant.

We have had success and do not know if the extra distance is needed.
People equate TSS with extra distance, but a lot of guys shoot it because it's the deadliest product available right now. Reducing the chances of a wounded bird getting away is a good reason to shoot it. Are 3.5" 12 gauge TSS shells overkill? Probably. But I like to be equipped as good as possible for a quick, ethical kill.
