Just talked with my Brother-In-Law. He has 3 good bucks and a dink on the home farm in south Georgia starting to spar a little bit.
I have 3 days off for a Catoosa-Genesis quota hunt November 21-23.
Hearing the reports from Catoosa, should I go enjoy a Catoosa hunt since I've never been?
(I really have been daydreaming about an incidental elk.) 😬😜😂

Or, should I go hunt the rut on the home farm?

What would you do?
Is incidental elk even a remote possibility?

I may be wrong, but it seems early for South Georgia rut. Any chance that you can hunt them a week or two later and still go to the Catoosa hunt?
No sir. That's the only days I have off to be able to go out of town. Typically the rut is in full swing the week of Thanksgiving. Daddy always took the week of Thanksgiving off. The week in question is the week before so should getting ramped up.

Then I'd go to the farm.

Yeah. I'd say that's pretty close. I'm from Clyattville. That's between Valdosta and the Florida line. I went to Lowndes High. Never would say I was from Valdosta. Grew up in the country. 😎
Well, I'm from Riverdale, so Valdosta is better than that. Of course it went downhill after Valdosta, as we moved to Knoxville

This was the first deer taken off of the farm.

Daddy was leaning up against a corner post down in the creek swamp when he came by.

That's a mule deer mount he is mounted on. His neck was so big he wouldn't fit a normal white tail mount. He dressed out at 215 pounds.

Years ago the Langdale family, they own most of Lowndes County, imported some Wisconsin white tail into the Withlacoochee River bottoms in east Brooks County and west Lowndes county. The Clyatt's Mill Creek feeds into the Withlacoochee. We believe some of the Wisconsin white tail that were imported made their way up the creek which is the southern border of the farm.

There aren't any giant racked bucks on the farm. This is one of the pictures my brother-in-law sent me today.

Helene took out the shooting house me and daddy built years ago.

Just thought I'd share some Wood history. Been a while since I was able to hunt it.
