When were these pictures taken?

He may only be 2 1/2, but his chest depth suggest he might be 3 1/2.

Kudos to you for passing up such a genetically superior (antler-wise) young buck!

My best guess is he's 3 1/2, but not much to go on in making that guess. Let's hope he's only 2 1/2. Either way, he's a good candidate to become a B&C buck should he survive to maturity.

Looking at his width through the shoulders, and his chest depth, I'm going to go with 3 1/2.

I want to say 2.5 but his chest has my second guessing myself. I wouldn't be surprised if he was 3.5. I would love to see what he blows up into next year with a frame like that now.

Great restraint on passing. It is a great buck with great potential. Hopefully you see that buck again or better yet that he passes along his genes to some future prospects.

I posted these 2 pics in early Nov of 2009 of a buck that I passed on that came by my stand at 15 yards just grunting away at a couple of does. It was my hope that by passing on him then despite his obvious maturity that he would be back next year. Well, I yet to see him again but every time i see a mature buck or young buck with great potential it makes me happy I passed on that buck back in 2009.

The way I see it, passing on small deer year after year will eventually work in your favor. I went 2 years without killing any mature bucks and last year was lucky enough to whack this guy middle October. Not the biggest deer I have ever seen and by far smaller racked than a lot of what others have been lucky to shoot but met all my mgmt standards and was estimated to be over 280 lbs with his nuts and guts. Didnt mean to hijack the thread. Good luck this season!

Deck, thats awesome man. I hope that it pays off for me. I haven't seen a mature buck in quite a while on our farm until we started letting the young one's walk. Now I have a couple mature one's on my trail camera and coming to my plots.

3.5 would be my guess just,to thick for a 2.5

If you passed that deer ..I would like to shake your hand, you have far more restraint then most.
I hope the deer gods reward you this year.
