Whats wrong with this deer?

I am sorry but I disagree,I have been doing some research ..this deer has some serious problems,
Many stem from the feeding of shelled corn, which I take full responsibility for. This was the deer a month ago.ALL I am going to say.

Could be ticks, but it looks more like burrs in the hair. Ticks generally concentrate around the ears and eyes.

And it could be that if those are ticks ,, she might have just rubbed and rubbed and actually caused her hair to shed. looks exactly like a short haired dog that we had that had a type of blood mange!! a genetic thing

I think BSK is right. Whenever I see a deer eat up with ticks their ears and face will be covered in them, but you won't see them distributed all over their body.

I don't see anything wrong with the deer. If it was really sick, you would see all its ribs and the bones sticking out of its rear hams as it became emaciated.

The deer is fine

Im sorry but you must see something that atleast 20 other ppl do not. The deer is FINE! If you just posted the picture to get opinions you got them, they are just not what you beleive they should be. Do you have any other picture from when the deer was "unhealthy?"

Look at it this way....Even if something was wrong, what could be done about it. No reason to worry about things you cannot change.

could be deer fibroma which only effects the skin and usually dries up and goes away after a short term, and looks like she is just starting to shed her summer coat and get her fall coat which could be caused early because of the fibroma. I got a doe in my backyard that has it on the ears and back of head and she does look like large tics but its fibroma IMO

Looks like a healthy mid summer doe to me. She'll be just fine; good body wt for this time of the year... in fact, I would say she's exceptionally fat if she has a fawn (but I doubt she does, looks like it may be a yearling doe, but that can be hard to tell)

Darton,

I'm not certain it is ticks, I have one of these fancy lcd screens, and the picture isn't clear enough. If those were ticks and they were all that engorged, they might of dropped off by now I would think. But again, I can't tell by the picture. It could very well be something else alltogether.

It's the right rear leg, and I see no deformity from the outside. The coat does appear to be between two types.

Demodectic mange is specific to white-tailed deer. But it usually manifest itself as spots that then spread. The skin would have legions/raw spots. Furthermore I found no documented cases of it in Tennessee.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, and best regards,
