Hey guys I'm going through the process of getting a new trail camera and I was hoping to get some feedback on some good cameras before I made the purchase. Dunhams had a sale on the Moultrie Game Spy D55IRXT for $89.99, anyone used this one? I was actually planning on getting the Bushnell trophy cam hd max black until I came across this other deal. Anyway, just post what you use and any pros/cons and how the battery life is. I appreciate all the help guys!

Got one and mine works great. Mine has great battery life too. I been having good luck with Moultrie for years..

Good to know, thanks man!

Notice I said "mine".. Others have bad luck with em, just like every brand. For me Moultrie is my choice. I have several and some I've been using for several years.

I do have one Wildgame camera that I got for a Christmas present last year. So I said what the hay, I'll try it. Used it for about a month last season and it did ok. Put it out this year in early June over a lick. It took great pics up until about 2 weeks ago and the IR flash along with the screen quit working. Threw it in the garbage, I knew I should have went and swapped it for a Moultrie....

I have not used nearly enough to have a favorite or find one that is really good. My current good one is a Primos TruthCam Blackout CR which has awesome battery life. I had over 6,000 pics and 60% battery when I checked today. Night pics are a bit blurry but it is a no-glow camera and for $80 not a bad deal at all. Day pics are pretty good if you ask me.

I love the custom homebrew cameras built by JTS Wildlife Cameras. Good warranty and great customer service. Cost a little bit more than the $100 cameras but you get what you pay for in a trail camera.

x2

My first tier choice is Reconyx.

My second tier choices are Uway VH200B, Covert Black 60, and Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Max.

My third tier choice would be the Moultrie 990i.

I really wouldn't consider anything from WGI or Primos.

From an overall perspective, regardless of initial price, my "choice" cams would have to be Reconyx and Homebrews. But I consider the Reconyx over-priced, so that leaves Homebrews.

Among the lower initial cost options, the Covert brand seems to be gaining a following, although my experience with them is near nil.

Don't overlook that "initial" cost is not the "total" cost, and having cams that aren't working as advertised, perhaps spending weeks in replacement/repair transit via warranty when you had planned to use them ------ sometimes you can pay less and get so much less you've wasted both your time and money.

Haha I noticed that! I have had a wildgame innovations and they ended up sending me like 3 cameras in one year and they just kept getting worse....never again!

Wow 6000 and still a ton of battery life left that's great and its a blackout....sounds like you can't go wrong with this one for $80!

Definitely my first choice would be Reconyx but Its just too much money for me to hang on a tree in the middle of the woods, i would constantly worry! Haha I would love to have one though! I've heard great things about the Covert and Bushnell also and they are definitely on the top of my list. I will look into the other cameras you listed, thank you for the info!

I currently use the Moultrie D55IRXT , and don't have any issues with it . Last card pull with the big buck pics were taken from that cam . It's more reliable than my Bushnell Trophy cam .

How do the batteries last for you? I looked at your pics, nice buck!!

Let me also add concerning my list, I only use black-flash cams, so anything else (red-glow [IR]) or white-flash) is out of the question.

I've only used IR cameras and I would really like a blackflash, with the IR a lot of times the deer are looking dead into the camera, is that not the case with a black flash? I guess I'm trying to ask if they aren't as noticeable to the deer?

True trail cam (catching deer in motion) - Sony P41 white flash homebrew.

Monitoring salt/scrapes (typically where deer are stationary momentarily) - Reconyx black flash, preferably the newer models (HC600 etc) that use AA batteries.
