What's your Trail Cam of choice?

I've only used IR cameras and I would really like a blackflash, with the IR a lot of times the deer are looking dead into the camera, is that not the case with a black flash? I guess I'm trying to ask if they aren't as noticeable to the deer?

Deer cannot see the flash of a true black-flash camera.

AND, many have found deer tend to be spooked or become more likely to avoid the infrared than white flash. The visible IR of trail cams began mostly as a marketing scheme, although the IR flash is less visible to humans, never mind that "red" flash may alarm deer more than "white" flash (which may remind them of natural lightning). Both IR and white flash have a tendency to cause "avoidance" of the spot in front of the cam, particularly by older deer ---- something that does not happen with true invisible "black" flash.

Depends on the deer . I pulled the card on my Moultrie D55IRXT and have over 200 pics of a mature buck . He isn't camera shy . :)
McCoy , this is a very good cam for the price . Battery life has been good . Had the cam out since the first of July with over 1200 pics. Batteries at 60% .

Placing IR cams up high looking down on your choice of area will help with "flash fright" from the red glow. ;)

It will. And that works great on "spot" attractants, like salt licks, food bait, or in fall, scrapes. However, it doesn't work well at all for monitoring large areas, such as trails and food plots/fields.

In some of my more camera sensitive areas , I have been placing them higher in the tree to avoid detection . I take a lone wolf stick and place them 8-10' high .

Bushnell trophy cams

keep them out every minute and then send any that don't perform back under warranty until you get a good one. Hard to beat whne they're running.

My first tier choice is Reconyx.

My second tier choices are Uway VH200B, Covert Black 60, and Bushnell Trophy Cam HD Max.

My third tier choice would be the Moultrie 990i.

I really wouldn't consider anything from WGI or Primos.
same here

Can anyone with the covert black 60 let me know how the battery life is....thanks!

That style of camera, that uses 8 or 12 AA batteries, will last 6 months to a year with lithium batteries.

Go to Moultriefeeders.com. The Game Spy I-45S Game Camera is $99.99. It is not the Blackout but has the low glow technology. You can barely see the flash even if you are staring at it trying to see it. I have many mature bucks taken by this camera. Very good camera for the $$.

I use Tenergy LSD (low self discharge) rechargables in mine, and I swap them out every two months. This is generally several thousand pictures worth (I set it to 3 shot bursts with a 30 second delay over salt licks so I get lots of pictures) and there is still a good amount of battery left but I don't want to chance the batteries going down before the next time I check the cameras. FYI: If you go with rechargables, even with fully charged batteries the battery meter does not register 100% because of the lower voltage of rechargables versus alkaline or lithium batteries.

I think during the summer months, rechargeables are the way to go. Will save you money over time, and you don't have the dilemma of "to change them now, or hope they'll last til I come back" when non-rechargeable batteries are about 70% depleted. However, I prefer either lithium or duracells during hunting season (since these batteries will usually last completely thru deer season, and perform better in cold weather). During hunting season, I'm often checking a particular cam only when I'm hunting nearby, and don't want to be taking extra time to change batteries, which with some cams causes you to have to re-set all the settings (time consumptive).
