This, I honestly did not know. Thinking back to when I was a kid though, one area I did my most turkey killing was owned by small family-owned logging operation. It was in a perpetual state of patchwork selective cutting and whippoorwills will were everywhere.Whippoorwills live in young forest. Our forests continue to age out of good habitat
Sounds like this sort of goes back to same answer for so many critters that were abundant at one time and now are not. Habitat loss.
