i've been shooting my new bow and am really excited about getting after some gobblers with it. just curious to see who else is carrying their bow.

been reallllllllllllly considering it. man, call me a sissy or what you like but that mossy 835 with a 3.5 hurts my feelings... every shot

once I am confident enough with the bow... at this rate I won't be bow hunting turkeys this spring, need to practice a lot more. It would be a lot more rewarding to stick one with an arrow. I'd like to try it without a blind... just whatever cover is available in the woods.

I'll get one down with my shotgun, and go stick and string after that. I got a bow holder stake for my popup blind. Knowing me, I like chasing them and manuevering on them too much in the mornings, so the bow will likely be an afternoon thing

Always! Have tried for a long time with a bow but never sealed the deal. Keep on keeping on!!!!!!!

Ive done both. I prefer to get one with a bow but its hard in the mountains here. I am not a blind person. I love to run and gun and I have been busted countless times trying to draw. I can't just set in a blind when I have one fired up on the mountainside so alot of times I leave the blind and go after it. I want to get one with a bow really bad but I also wanna get one.... LOL.

Not a expert, but looks to me hunting out of a tree stand with a bow would be better. I killed one last year like this but with my shotgun, just don't make the mistake like I did. I stood up and shot behind me, about knocked me out of the stand. Yeh I know not a good idea, but I killed him.

I will try and get the first one with stick n string, then its on!
I am hoping I found another gobbler for this year...if he sticks around for the games, im going to try and poke him.

I tell myself every year that I will. Then I limit with a gun and dont even go with a bow. I really dont want to blind hunt, I run and gun so I just never end up taking a bow.I need to just try it, be patient and get one strutting away from me or behind a big tree, etc and draw.

I MAY, but then MAY NOT. :)

Just a few rambling thoughts:

While hunting the traditional "Run & Gun" style of turkey hunting, killing a turkey with a bow would generally require much greater hunting skills. This is a true hunting challenge, and a much greater feat than killing a deer with a bow while still hunting.

But hunting from a pop-up blind?
I see little additional challenge in killing a turkey with a bow vs. just using a shotgun. True, there is a tad more challenge, but not that much. IMO, it's mostly just an inconvenience to be using a bow instead of a shotgun.

My thoughts on this are much like my thoughts on deer hunting.
First and foremost, I'm more a hunter, than any particular weapon enthusiast. I usually hunt with the most effective legal weapon that's "in season". If that be a bow, I'm happy to hunt with a bow. But when a gun is legal, I usually find that gun a more effective weapon for my hunting.

But I do understand and appreciate that some people are simply more into archery than I'm into hunting. Others are more interested in golf. That's fine. I'm just in to enjoying the hunt.
