I have never been a sports "nut" I was always too busy hunting or fishing to get too involved in it.
I did, however, always watch "some" sports.
When I was very young I picked my favorite teams and they still are today even though, like baseball, I haven't watched a game in probably 10 years.
Just thought this might be interesting conversation.

NFL Green Bay Packers. I remember my dad talking about the old days when the Bears and Packers would play and they would always end up fighting and sometimes even beat the ref up. My brother had a plaque thing that was half of a green bay helmet, so that's who I picked. LOL
MLB Boston Red Sox. My brother bought me my very first baseball glove when I was about 7 I guess. It had Jim Rice's autograph in the palm of it. I guess they still do that? Anyway, I found out who he played for and that's been my team ever since.
College football Tennessee of course. I remember my dad put a sticker on the back glass of his 1967 Ford pickup that just said University of Tennessee across the bottom of the glass. Guess that's when it started for me.

College sports....Tennessee everyone in the family was Tennessee fans grew up watching every football and basketball game with dad. Can hit the interstate, and be in Knoxville in 30 mins or so just the hometown team.

NFL......I'm a titans fan I get made fun of alot for it but it is what it is. My dad grew up a Rams fan he will still tell you Eric Dickinson is the best running back of all time, Of course they was no tennessee titans till 1997 so he didn't have a tennessee team to pull for when he was young.

Baseball......Atlanta braves....dad was a huge fan. Grew up watching every game I could, we still go to a few games a year. I would like to know who many evenings I spent watching a braves game with dad.... I've been with my wife 7 years now and she can probably name more braves players then most MLB fans.

He ain't far off there. :D

Sidetrack:
Speaking of the best running back ever:
Two of my friends went to some kind of sports thing in Nashville a couple weekends ago and one of them bought an oilers helmet and got Earl Campbell to sign it. He looked pitiful, could barely hold the pen and had to use a walker to get from the van to the table.

Yeah, I seen a documentary Eric campbell. A Football life....he couldn't get around at all even when that was being filmed

56 years ago started for me at 4 yrs old sitting on my dads knee listening to the Vols, our whole family are Vol fans, and Titans fan also but not nearly into NFL as college

College football is Tennessee and I enjoy watching win, lose, or draw for them. Now baseball is my addiction and it's always been Atlanta Braves. I enjoy cheering for the "home team" and there's always been a few players on each of the Atlanta teams I think not are they only great baseball players but all around great people and use the talents God blessed them with to bless others. On this run of Atlanta Braves it would be hands down Freddie Freeman. Some of the best memories I have with my grandparents are sitting out on the screened in porch watching the Braves.

Tennessee Vols are my team, period and I'll never sway. Folks are from Arkansas so I have a soft spot for the Hogs.

Oakland A's were my team as a kid. No real reason, just who I took a liking too while watching with my grandfather. He was huge cardinals fan. Damn I miss that man. Quit watching baseball when the strike happened.

NFL I was a 49's fan as a kid. Loved Montana and then Young along with Rice and some of the other greats. When Patrick Willis went there I was proud since he is from the next town over. Awesome football player but probably a better person than he was a player. But I naturally followed Peyton in his pro career and those were my favorite teams at that time. When he retired I mostly quit watching. Now I keep up with a few players on diff teams but do t watch it enough to have "a team"

Bball I watch some playoffs and college tourney and thats about it. I do watch a few vols games here and there.

Football - 49'ers as a kid. Wore #42 my whole football career and played in the secondary because of Ronnie Lott (he's a beast). I'm a Seahawk fan now. Lived in WA for several years and just kinda "drank the cool-aid". Don't watch the NFL anymore after they started kneeling for the Anthem.
Baseball - Dodger's, back in the Tommy Lasorda era. Recently Angel's because of my wife and her family
Hockey - Pred's

Like some have said, I'm too busy these days to sit and watch anything. If I do have something on it's the Pursuit Channel. I supposed to forgive, but I'll NEVER forget all the disrespect to our flag and country by these whining millionaires. Just not gonna partake. I do miss my Sat/Sun afternoon football though. Oh well.

MLB-Cardinals. My family has always been Cards fans, Grandad watched Stan the man way back in the day and i remember cheering for them in the early 2000's when I was too young to know what was going on.
NFL-Titans. Always been partial to the home team for some reason but no cool story about them.
NHL-Preds. Same as above.
NBA-Grizzlies. Grit and Grind is what sold me on them along with their 2011 series vs the Spurs.

I've always preferred the college game over the pros and my favorite is UT. I bleed orange and always will.

NFL - grew up a Cowboys fan because we didn't have a team and my family pulled for them. Started pulling for the Titans when they arrived but at the end of the day really don't watch it.

Baseball - pull for the Atlanta Braves but really don't watch MLB until the playoffs start. My dad was a Yankees fan so pulled for them.

NHL - been to a couple of Predators games and it's fun to watch live but don't ever watch it on tv.

NBA - could care less.

Growing up with two brothers.........we all had different NFL teams as favorites. I was a Steelers fan, my middle brother was a Raiders fan , my youngest was a Dolphins fan. The Steelers dominated from 1974 through 1979 much to my brothers disappointment.

College Football is Tennessee Volunteers.

MLB is the Braves.

My favorite was St Louis Blues, the Cardinals and the Rams but quit following football after they left. Sort of quit watching hockey when they redid the divisions and they lost the big rivalry games. Unfortunately I was born in Missouri but grew up in sw Illinois so I have alot of memories of old Busch stadium and the Arena.

This was me as well. I still remember my dad jumping up in the air while listening to John Ward on the radio. He's had season tickets for probably 50 years, and I went to a lot of games my teenage years. I was there in '82 when we broke an 11 game losing streak. Bama was #2 ;) !

Attended many basketball games as well. I vaguely remember Ernie and Bernie at UT, but did follow Bernard in the pros. He was Michael Jordan, before Michael Jordan. Knee injuries really kept him from getting his due.

Grew up a Dodgers fan, because that's what my dad was. When he was growing up, he listened to the Brooklyn Dodgers on AM radio, and then his fandom followed them to LA. Baseball lost me with the strike in 90s. Have maybe watched a couple of complete games since.

NFL, I liked the Steelers mainly because the rest of the family like the Cowboys.

I use to really like the NBA, but that also is a thing of the past.

Good thread!

(this is going to be long)
I didn't care a bit about sports as a kid or even through college. I was too busy working and with school (hunting and fishing when I had any time off). But I guess I was still an Alabama fan growing up only because you have to pledge your allegiance to either AL or Auburn if you live in Alabama. Some of my best memories are sitting with my grandfather in a dove field listening to Alabama football on a staticy radio.

Anyway, back to not being interested in sports growing up; I even got married on the "Third Saturday in October" not understanding that Fall weddings is a "no-no" in SEC country. A couple of my uncles even made sure there was a TV at the wedding reception.

I moved to Oklahoma in 1999. OU won the BCS National Championship in 2000 and stayed really good for the next few years. Alabama was terrible at the time. OU is a big meteorology school so most of my coworkers were OU graduates and football fans. OU and AL had a home-Home series in 2002-2003. Simply because I was from AL, they assumed I was a big Bama fan. Unranked Alabama lost both games to highly ranked OU, but performed way better than the OU fans expected. Anyway, due to lack of hunting opportunities in OK and relentless torment from OU fans I became an Alabama football fan(and all-around college football fan).
