Who is your favorite team and why?

Born in Knoxville so there is my allegiance to the Vols. Family is and was fans, a few attended UT but most of y'all know the feeling (and this isn't unique to UT, but it is southern I think) that the college team is like a local team for the whole state. It's more of a high school vibe where they're your guys, more than a relationship to a professional organization.
First and foremost til death do us part.

I am an admittedly half hearted Titans Fan. NFL has really lost interest with me because all their BS.

MLB interestingly enough I used to be a Dodgers Fan. Best friends growing up had an aunt & uncle that lived in LA. No kids. We went out to visit them one year and they were great tour guides. Took us all over, paid for everything, etc. Anyway took us to Dodger Stadium and that was the first MLB game I ever attended. It was an electric atmosphere. Tons of fans, huge Mexican/Latin presence and they were shooting off fireworks in the parking lot. Gave the Padres outfielders all kinds of hell. A handful of celebrities at the game, it wasn't a playoff game but it was late summer so I learned later that's when they start showing up, save a few examples. Tons of fans scoring the game on their own score sheets in the stands too I remember. Smart baseball fans. We didn't have an mlb team so we became dodger fans. I kind of gave up on them a couple years ago cause it's tough to really follow a baseball team from the other side of the country. Of course not long after that they won the series but I didn't really celebrate it I had already turned in my fandom. Soft spot for the braves being born in Knoxville and I remember vividly Glavin, Maddox & Smoltz pitching when I was a kid.

NBA I grew up with Michael Jordan. That was pro basketball I've never had a team I pulled for I pulled for Jordan.

He ain't far off there. :D

Sidetrack:
Speaking of the best running back ever:
Two of my friends went to some kind of sports thing in Nashville a couple weekends ago and one of them bought an oilers helmet and got Earl Campbell to sign it. He looked pitiful, could barely hold the pen and had to use a walker to get from the van to the table.

Went to tech school in San Angelo, TX in 1980 which is where the Oilers' training camp was. We were going to class 3-midnight, so we'd go over to the college to watch practice. Unbelievable how big Earl Campbell was - each of his thighs was probably as big as my waist - and he was still moving pretty good then. Got to talk with Jack Tatum for a couple of minutes, but maybe the coolest thing was meeting The Snake at a small store buying beer, and him holding a cooler door open so I could pull out a case.

College Football: Nebraska Cornhuskers. My whole family roots for them. But I tried to resist it for years. Cheered for Notre Dame all through college, even. But I finally "came home" these past several years. Enjoying the misery now. But Frost has done a good job making games close against ranked teams and gotten better recruits. Still trying to find an SEC team I care for. I sympathize with the Vols but have no skin in the game.

Baseball: Atlanta Braves. This was very random. Had no real background watching baseball other than watching the World Series a time or two and going to a Lookouts game. One summer break I just started watching a Braves game and got outraged at bad calls by the umps. Went to a game where they walked off the Mets with a homer after being down several runs. That sealed the deal. I'm going to NLCS Game 1 with my wife, tomorrow night.

NFL: New England Patriots. I know, I know. But I didn't get on the bandwagon—I learned about the team from the arcade game NFL Blitz '99 and thought the QB's name "Bledsoe" was awesome. Stuck with them ever since—though I admit my interest waned heavily after their last Super Bowl win. I saw the "glory days" of the Brady era and now that I've "been to the top of the mountain" time and again I'm more fired up about baseball. Enjoying watching Mac Jones develop this season, though.

All other sports allegiances are passive and I invest no time in them. Enjoyed a Washington Capitals game once and sympathize with them.

Man I hope you enjoy that game. This time of the year when I get home wife always tells our boys " it's Braves and eggnog time" for your dad lol. She surprised me and asked if I wanted to go to a game but I told her she wouldn't enjoy it and I don't think I could sneak my eggnog in there lol.

NFL I grew up 49ers fan. I pull for the Titans a little since they are Our state team.
College, Volunteers , Texas A&M , Kentucky and Nebraska. Any team that beats Ohio state.
I don't like any other sports except racing. Was a diehard Bill Elliott fan. Got to meet him and his family several times. Super nice guy. Only reason I watch it now is his son Chase races.

Good lord I forgot all about NASCAR. I was a huge nascar fan. Never missed a race (on tv) and made it a point to get to at least one per year. My uncle was big into it but a couple of my other best friends growing up (not the brothers mentioned earlier in the LA story) got me into it and they were Gordon fans, so I was too. I know, I know. They had always been into it and were pretty young when he broke onto the scene and for some reason he became their guy. By the time I got on board senior had already died and looking back I definitely got the second half of JG (no not that one) prime. It had started to go downhill even before he retired but once he quit I may have hung on another year or two? Haven't watched a race in years.

ALABAMA but I think you guys know that. Been a fan since the early 70's. My dad use to take me to the games back when it was just Denny Stadium so that tells you how far that goes back.

NFL teams growing up it was always the Dallas Cowboys. Once Jerry Jones took over it took a dark turn and left me out in the cold. With all the standing BS I haven't watched a game since.

Hockey? Big bad Bruins from the 70's. Kid up the block moved here from Boston and him and his dad were huge Boston fans. They taught me how to play street hockey which lead to ice hockey. Been hooked ever since.

Havent ever gotten into Basketball and since the Strike in the 80's haven't watched but one MLB game and that was to watch the Cubs win the Pennant. Only because there was so much hype behind it and so much historical significance behind it. Figure its never gonna happen again in my lifetime so might as well catch it now.

University of Kentucky in everything! I'm Blue through and through. Being originally from Harlan County, it's always been about the Cats. I'm actually watching Big Blue Madness right now!!! Lots of folks would like to argue, but it truly is the greatest tradition in college basketball. I love watching them in all sports, our football team ain't half bad this year, but basketball trumps them all.
As far as sports overall, I would have to say that I enjoy and follow boxing more than anything besides UK basketball. Been a boxing fan since I was 3 in 1975. I have my papaw and dad to thank for that.

That's awesome!!
Oh and his thighs were 34" around!!!

College FB - Ohio State since 1968 and probably earlier. Family and soil thing.

College BB - same, but soft spot for Georgetown as an alumni.

NFL - Browns - same. Soft spot for the Titans.

MLB - Reds, but very soft spot for the Indians (I don't recognize the G word).

NBA, MLS - don't care.

NHL - loved the Bruins of Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito as a kid, but like soccer, it's a game of turnovers and I just can't follow it.

Georgia. I was raised in Athens, my dad was the director of continuing education. I had season tickets from 1966-1983 since deee tickets were part of the UGA Faculity salary back then. Started going to the games at 6 years old. If you lived in Athens it doesn't matter what you want to do on the weekend " get your red sweater on its game day boy". As a teenager I used to go into the game with my parents, go out the back side of the stadium and sit on the railroad tracks with the partiers watching the game and drinking. I even sold programs and one year against Alabama, I made $60 selling programs, $60 selling my game pass, and still has a ticket to watch the game. Met Hershel Walker the day he came to visit the school since my dad was a friend of Vince Dooley.

UT Vols. Growing up Dad was a UT fan, my Mom and my brother were Razorback fans (they are special)

Atlanta Braves. Dale Murphy, Bob Horner were a couple of my favorites growing up.

Minnesota Vikings. Used to pretend to be Fran Tarkington playing backyard football. Also, no real man can be a Green Bay fan.

My favorite NFL team is the Dallas Cowboys. Favorite College team are the FSU Noles.

Anything college is Kentucky

MLB has always been the Braves from as long as I can remember back.

NFL can't say I have a favorite team I don't guess. When Brady became a free agent year before last I became one too and followed him to Tampa. When he retires in 12-15 years I'm not sure what team I will pick up then.

The Tennessee Volunteers I'd be for them if they never win another game. I think it says a lot about a man to pledge and stand with his state, whoever that may be.(Vols, vandy, Memphis.) It's absolutely disgusting to me to cheer for a team because they win alot. I've been a vol fan before I can even remember and have stuck with them through all the crap we've went through.
NFL- Green Bay was my team but then the oilers came in and I became a fan, now the Titans. I don't watch nfl anymore. I'm sure most know why.
MLB-Braves, only reason I'd change is if Tennessee owned a team.
I don't watch any other sports.

What if a man isn't from Tennessee?

Also, I know lots of Tennessee, Vandy and Memphis fans who hate folks who cheer for other "in state" teams.
I think if your from Alabama you should be for Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Jacksonville, Troy, or whoever. Im a Tennessee fan, but if vandy is playing other teams I'm for them. Just a preference, and the way I was raised. I feel it's a little different over on this side of the state. We're very proud of where we're from no other place I know does anyone say specifically where they are in a state. But, when I or anyone else I know from here we don't just say we're from Tennessee but we're East Tennesseans. I personally have rarely heard that anywhere else. You should be proud of where you're from, root for your home team, and not just follow the crowd because it's easy or cool. You seem to get it. BamaProud, you picked that name for some reason.
