I was reading about the great success of the Nichols Ben Parker Magnum Spoon so tried to find out how much they are going for and its $16.99. Its a big chunk of metal with a hook on it. Its 8 inches long and weighs 3.5 ozs. I could easily see myself casting this for the very first time and the line bind up on my reel and it snap off and go flying into the water or maybe hanging it on a stump or rock in 20 ft of water. If I were to start spending that kind of money on lures, I would have to keep a mask in fins in the boat so I could go after them whenever they hung up. They don't seem like they would be hard to make. Get some 1/8 inch steel and cut out a spoon shape, smooth down the sides, maybe hammer it a little, drill a hole on either end, paint it chrome, and install a hook on one end and a swivel on the other. $16.99???? Am I missing something?

It took Ben a long time to get the spoon perfectly like it needs to be. $16.99 is child's play compared to several lures out there.

I was tempted to spend that much on a fancy hard plastic swimbait (to use for rockfish), but a spoon? wow

I used to think they wouldn't be worth it. Then...... I watched a fellow TNDeer member outfish me 10 to 1. We were both throwing similar baits, except his cost $16 and mine cost $5. I was a believer. He gave me one of his baits and I started catching fish.

Nope, this thing was made of an even cheaper material called plastic!!!

It's hard to understand why so many pay so much to fish for something they don't keep. But, as they say, fat chicks need lovin' too.

I tell everyone I take with me to use one of my lures so they will catch more fish. Some learn the hard way. :)

We gotta head back up there and catch some more.

$17.00 is nothing compared to the cost of the boat, gas, tackle, tournament fees, hotels, ect. If it will catch fish people will pay it. When the A-rig was hot I sold 6 for $100.00 each in 6 minutes on ebay. Fishermen, myself included are as bad as crackheads sometimes.

I pay more on gas for the truck and boat than I do on tackle. And it doesn't even burn as much gas as many people's rigs

I got a Strike King Wake Shad at BPS with a gift card. It was around $20 bucks. It was the only thing I got that day. I left it on the top of the car. It fell off when I made the turn at Smokies ballpark. I saw it fall of and went back to get it. Someone ran over it while I was standing there waiting for a break in the traffic. Went back in and spent my own money on another. It made it home. I have caught some big smallmouth on it over the past few years. Well worth it to me.
