My wife and I went out on the back deck to shoot our bows before our prentice cooper hunt this weekend. well after the first round of shots, we were talking, had the cat walking close to the target.. ect... anywhy, she dry fired her bow.... omg what a horrible sound... luckily it doesnt look like the limbs cracked but the string and a cable came off... I hope big daddys can put it back together tomorrow so she can hunt sat. She was sick after she figured out what happenend.

Thats not good. Why did she dry fire it? I'm not understanding that part of it.

I'd say everything will be fine, but if it threw the string it must have been a terrible sound! :D Glad it didn't hurt her

oh ok. it happens ya know. My wife just started this year. She has had her problems too. I'm sure she's learned a great lesson from it.

Check them limbs over good, I'd hate to hear they broke with her at fulldraw.

i have looked the limbs over as best as the naked eye can and all seems good. I will see tomorrow after i get it all fixed and see how it shoots. hopefully she got lucky with the hoyt limbs.

I remember when my wife first started. Went into the house, came out just in time to see the brand new reflex hit the ground and HUGE alligator tears come falling down. It was honestly one of the worst string slaps I had ever seen, blue, black, green, and purple. But she has a gift, and can shoot awesome. Women just seem to be dead arm steady.
I'm just glad the string just came off and your wife didn't get hurt!

run a cotton ball all over the limbs. It will snag and smallest cracks you might not be able to see.

A "dry-fire" can happen to any of us with a broken nock type deal. There are a couple of things you can do that MAY save the limbs for you. The Sims limbsavers on the limbs can take a lot of the shock out of it. I wouldn't have a bow without them due to that and general quieting on every shot.

Quality Archery Designs (QAD) makes a set of camo neoprene/foam limb covers that also help. They will absorb some shock and quieten things down, too. The do a fantastic job of protecting the limbs while hunting. I have a set for both of my bows.

glad she wasn't hurt!

my buddy dry fired his brand new Diamond Marquis and the string, cam, idler wheel, axles, and limbs were all toast. he could have bought a new bow after paying to fix it. sounded like someone shot a 30.06 in his bedroom.

It amazes me that a little light weight arrow can make that much difference between a smooth shot and the apparent horrible consequences of dry firing. I have never dry fired my bow, and I hope not to.

Well after restringing and fixin the timing big daddy's outdoors has the bow ready to go again. My wife got realty lucky nothing was broke. 22 bucks and a good lesson learned. Now to get ready for the morning.
