win.Long beard xr

I haven't shot any yet but I've heard nothing but good about them, they are supposed to pattern very well, better than most other lead loads

I picked up a box last year to test. After testing I promptly returned to Bass Pro Shops to pick up 10 more boxes (before they change the recipe) if that tells you how they shoot out of my gun. I "field tested" them last year too.

TH,
One thing to please keep in mind is try not to get sucked into the long-range marketing hype with the LBs. While they may pattern like a dream, it's still a little'ol LEAD #6 that has an energy/penetration limitation (like any pellet). Folks are choosing a choke/shell combo that holds a dense even pattern way out there, but are forgetting about the diminished energy as the limiting factor. Crippled birds is often the outcome.

Good luck to you and let us know how they work for you.

very very well said. at the end of the day it is still lead but lead has killed many a bird

I try to keep shots on a turkey at 40 yds in the woods. Most of my shots are much closer. Like you said i kinda got sucked into the long range pattern fad a few yrs ago. Fields give me the most trouble on judgeing distance.

Do yourself a favor and get the LB4s, you wont be sorry...
After the way Dad's gun shot them I am thinking of trying them also. It was a nice tight pattern.

I was hoping to get by with the Federal Turkey Thugs 5 shot but I had a lot of open spots in my pattern that bothers me.

I agree. I saw an ad just yesterday that said "proven killers at 65 yards". Anybody that shoots at a turkey at 65 yards with lead should have their hunting license pulled for life IMO. :bash:

I compared the 2 last Saturday. XR beat the Magblends pretty good. Both shots were 40 yards.

tappin the talk

Winchester claims that LB's penetrate 10% better than other lead loads, but I don't remember the details.

That said, it still doesn't make any sense to me to have a supposedly lethal pattern at 60 when you'll have to hit the bird with a softball sized pattern if you call em up close. My Mossberg 500 put 209 #6 LB pellets in a 10" circle the other day at 40 yds. I'm glad I'm shooting straight with just double beads, but hopefully will still get a wider pattern out of the .690 choke I've got ordered.

My mossberg 835 with a Jebs .650 choke put 271 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yds with Longbeard #6's...Hope to try on a turkey at that distance

With a super tight pattern like that don't you think they'll be more of a challenge to hit at 15 or 20? I'm not much of a turkey hunter...just thinking out loud...in other words, just how big does a shot pattern need to be to hit a gobbler's bobbin' head? Federal's new 3rd Degree Heavyweights are supposed to address this issue but cost twice as much as LB's...

[emoji16] Seems extremely tight for an 835. I've got a .660 and I'm scared to shoot it at all through mine.
Would like to see your pattern picture.
