In the span of one season would you rather kill 100 Mallards doing it right from way up high and finishing them feet down @ 25 yards or scratch out a mix of 500 teal, greyducks, spoonies and jacks at a average of 40 yards. Inquiring minds want to know... atleast mine.

Today...zero doubt...I'd chose the 100 mallards up close.

I'll take the 100 mallards every year. That's how I was taught to duck hunt. Nothing beats that. To me it's the difference in calling a turkey in gobbling and strutting verses getting in front of the feeding flock and bushwhacking him as he feeds by.

500 a duck is a duck to me. I don't have mallard mania plus big groups of teal make for a fun hunt.

There Is a lot of consideration that would go into that decision, mainly how many days you hunt and cost. If I'm sending 10 gun crapshots at 65 yard birds to wing one and chase it down on reelfoot for a big number that's not for me. I havnt been in several years after loosing the taste for that.

Can't beat feet down over the decoys hunting, i can usually scratch out 2 or so by myself and don't shoot divers much without paying.

I'm a once a year duck hunter if that and I'd love to be on a great hunt where they're landing in your face so initial thought is the 100 ducks but wouldn't complain about a barrel burner on 500 either.

GW Teal and pintails are my favorite ducks to eat, but I love how big mallards are. Feels like a trophy in your hand.

I'm in East TN, so 100 of any duck would be good enough for me.

I would agree with this. I am almost as happy with 10 gadwalls working and working then coming in feet down as I am 10 mallards.

As much as I love to watch and work the mallards, I gotta go with the mixed bag. More shooting for me and more work for him. We both like our ducks grilled rare to medium rare so what I don't eat he will. Except coots and hoods. He won't eat those and I don't blame him. They are great catfish bait though.

Yep I am a mallard snob.. Have passed on thousands of teal that we have landed and let leave the hole just to fill mallard limits. Those days seem long gone unfortunately..

I don't really care what kind of ducks they are.. I prefer teal and wood ducks for table fare.
I just like shooting decoying ducks.
I've been very fortunate enough to kill a lot of ducks thru the yrs.
Mostly mallards . But I don't have a preference. I'll throw down on some jacks if they stretch them feet out reaching for water . I get the same rush no matter the species.

teal and wood ducks are prime eating! i've hunted ducks for over fifty years, and had years where i didn't even SEE that many (100) birds.
