If this happens I think all the teams not in the "Power Five" conferences would be in some trouble.

Power Five coaches polled on games

Many of the Power Five conference coaches in college football told ESPN that they favor a schedule consisting of only Power Five opponents.

Of the 65 Power Five coaches from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12, SEC and Notre Dame, 46 percent (30 coaches) favored playing exclusively Power Five opponents while 35 percent (23 coaches) were opposed. About 18.5 percent (12 coaches) were undecided.

The coaches, who were in Bristol, Connecticut, last month, were asked whether they would favor all Power Five conferences playing their respective conference schedules and then scheduling all nonconference games against other Power Five teams. Because of the tougher schedules under this hypothetical scenario, teams would not be required to reach six wins to play in a bowl.

The Pac-12, Big 12 and SEC coaches favored playing all Power Five opponents, while the ACC coaches were against it by a 6-4 margin with four coaches undecided. Big Ten coaches were divided: Six each were for and against it, with two undecided.

Alabama coach Nick Saban said "fans want" Power Five teams playing exclusively Power Five opponents.

"We need to be more concerned about the people who support the programs and the university and come and see the games," Saban said. "Those are the most important. But we never think about that."

SEC

YES: Alabama's Nick Saban, Florida's Will Muschamp, Kentucky's Mark Stoops, LSU's Les Miles, Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, Ole Miss' Hugh Freeze, Tennessee's Butch Jones

NO: Arkansas' Bret Bielema, Georgia's Mark Richt, Missouri's Gary Pinkel, South Carolina's Steve Spurrier, Vanderbilt's Derek Mason

Undecided: Auburn's Gus Malzahn, Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin

Won't change it much... Teams in the SEC would be fine and teams like ND that play weak schedules would be looking in.... :)

We already seen what the best ND team in decades did against a SEC team.... Lacey is still dragging ND players up the field... :)

First, the Gators wouldn't know what to do without their 3 annual cupcakes.

Second, it was proven that the Teo scandal prevented ND from beating Alabama.

Third, there are about 60 teams outside the Power 5 conferences that probably think it will change a lot.

Fourth, there is only one program that can stand all on its own and still have a seat at the table.

Why is ND relevant????

Because of their fan base. It has nothing to do with the current program. They were relevant a few decades ago, just as Yale and Harvard were contenders at one time.

ND plays cupcakes 50% of the time. If a team playing with fake girlfriends lose the N/C... Who do the cry to after the game when the SEC spanks them..:)

There's cupcakes and then there's CUPCAKES....like Idaho, Eastern Michigan and Eastern Kentucky. Two "directional" schools in one year? They should hand out free compasses to anyone willing to sit through such lameness.

UT is RELEVANT because they play in the top conference, year in and out in addition to a usual top 10 team out if conference.
We may SUCK but we play a schedule with other RELEVANT teams.

I like ND and the storied program but their relevance is waining.
With all the conference networks and cable expansion NBC will not be able to continue covering their shortcomings.....

Today's kids don't know who Reggie Ho is, do you? ( without looking it up) ;)

Please tell me we don't have Vol fans talking about relevance.

Yes we do. You know Notre Dame football is really lacking respect when UT fans can kick them around while their own team isn't exactly on top of the world.

Well put. You said it better than I did.

However, I believe NBC will continue to cover their shortcomings, but the $$$ in the TV contract will likely shrink instead of growing like the conference contracts will continue to do.

Wow, Vermin. Is the Teo lie what you're goin' with? I seem to remember a lot of fake tackles by the ND defense. I don't see ND getting another chance at a title on the horizon. As a matter of fact, they didn't have a chance that night either. Never seen a coach so whipped as Kelly was at halftime.

'atta boy Freeze.

Alright....I can deal with Alabama fans taking shots at ND, but Vol fans questioning ND's relevance relative to Tennessee is just unacceptable....and possibly even delusional.

Last 10 years:

ND 78-48 (.619)
Tennessee 67-58 (.536).....35-45 (.4375) in the SEC

Brian Kelly all time head coaching record 90-37 (.709)
Brian Kelly all time bowl record (4-3)

Butch Jones all time head coaching record 55-34 (.618)
Butch Jones all time bowl record (1-2)

I can't believe this is even up for debate in 2014. The fact that ND was in the title game just 2 seasons ago makes them relevant. If ND played for the title, that means 122 other Div 1A teams didn't play for it.

Survey says: RELEVANT!!! :o

I'll take Reggie Ho for $1000 Alex :)

I enrolled at Notre Dame in 1989. The year before that, Reggio Ho kicked the game winning FG to beat Michigan in the season opener. He kicked 4 FG's that game. Notre Dame went on to win the national title. I've met Reggie Ho. He was, and presumably still is, a little guy.

Norte Dame was in the NC BECAUSE they will not join a RELEVANT conference AND because of their NBC exposure. Aren't SOME of their sports in a conference, wonder why not football, hmmm....

If TN played ND schedule over the same period their record would be much better, you have to compare apples to apples.
If you can't see that then your not realistic.

I like ND, just stating the facts....

He is little for sure, I always liked how he lined up cockeyed to kick the ball, strange but effective :)

Yes, facts are good....like this one.

After all these years of success by programs like Alabama and Florida and others, Notre Dame still has the #1 all-time winning percentage of any school to ever play the game.

Notre Dame is number one in all-time winning percentage

The Fighting Irish are on top of the college football world once again, sort of. Notre Dames victory over Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl put the pressure on Michigan to stay in first place in terms of all-time winning percentage. With Michigan getting run over by Kansas State later in the day in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, the Irish moved past the Wolverines to take first place in all-time winning percentage by a narrow margin.

Break out the calculator because we are going deep past the decimal point in these calculations.

Notre Dame is now 874-305-42 all-time. That equates to a winning percentage of .7330057. Michigan drops to 910-321-36 for a winning percentage of .7324388. For those keeping score at home, or most notably in South Bend or Ann Arbor, that is a slight .0005669 in favor of the Irish.
