Is Your County This Bad?

This is exactly dead on the money. They don't listen and they don't care. Same situation with CWD management. Outdoorsmen in this state have no say.
I disagree. Contact your TWRA commissioner. Hopefully you have one of the new one. They are clearly listening to the hunters. And are making changes across the state. I am very happy to be represented by Commissioner Stan Butt in my Region.

You ever think the commissioners might be part of the problem? Twra has folks with a real education in wildlife not just a interest in it
You need to converse with some of the new commissioners, you'd speak differently. Why you think the old boss just retired after 2 years.
Winds of change are blowing through the agency and it is a good thing.

In Obion it looks like it dropped in 2012 and has stayed pretty consistent besides the 2018 year. Thanks to a couple of yall showing me how to see this.

Looks like Weakley had a down turn 2013-2015 then a big spike until 2018.

You guys will be competing for south MS populations in a few. We had a banner year this year in my county due to a great hatch 2y ago. Keep in mind the percentage of the population who hunts is higher than TN, but the overall population is much lower.

If we kill in the 90s again next year for the county totals, I'll be thrilled

Mega, are these #'s from the Game Check report? Reason I ask is from what I've heard they estimate approx. half the birds killed are actually reported.

Weakley county is consistent in harvest and Obion is not to bad, alot better than my County.Im afraid that Clay county is nearing the end as far as turkeys go.

I live in Clay County in north middle Tennessee and the turkey population has dwindeled down terribly low the last several years,as I guess it has in most Tennessee counties.I looked back the last 12 years on the harvest just in Clay county and it is shocking to see!
Below are the harvest report for past 12 years and you can see the progression it has taken!

2010-580 birds
2011-498
2012-460
2013-462
2014-444
2015-469
2016-419
2017-339
2018-245
2019-208
2020-285
2021-220
2022-147

As you can see 2016 is the first clear sign you can see that something was happening to the turkeys,if something is not done now Im afraid the turkeys are just gonna go away like the quail have.Im sure most turkey hunters have the same going on in your county also, feel free to list your County and kills so hunters can see!
bummer

Weakley county is consistent in harvest . . . . .

It's interesting so many counties, such as Weakley & Obion, are counties late to have huntable turkey populations. Many these counties seem "ok" at present.

I used to do a lot of quail hunting in Weakley & Obion county when both had lots of quail, but zero turkey. Had to travel farther east to go turkey hunting. But today, quail are near extinction in those same two counties, while the turkeys seem to be doing ok.

I maybe way off here because I can't remember when the first fall turkey hunt started with shotgun. It seems we used to be able to shoot one with a bow during archery season. It seems the turkey numbers have plummeted since the fall hunt and the shooting of hens.

There is no way in the world I would've thought Mississippi hunters only killed around 20,000 birds!
There aren't a ton of turkeys in MS any longer. Not since the mid 2000s. A few pockets here and there with plenty, but those spots are few and far between. Birds in south MS disappeared after Katrina.
