I do the same when monitoring a spot on the ground, like a scrape. But sometimes I want a wide panoramic view of the entire area hence mount them lower. The deer definitely notice those!I put most of mine about 7-8 ft high and angle them to my point of aim. Most of the time they don't even look at them. Like this guy.
