10 am to 2pm hunt hours

I hunted it a lot last year due to work and picking up kids from school. Actually killed both my bucks around 1pm scent checking edges of a field where doe are known to hang out.

I normally only hunt mornings and evenings because those are peak movement times for deer, even during the rut. But deer can and will get up and move any time of day. Especially during the rut. I shot a buck cruising the edge of a doe bedding area yesterday at 11:40 am. If the rut is heating up in your area, hunt whenever you can.

So when gun season opens, kiss the bucks goodbye?
Not necessarily. I've used my bow on several of those. If you know your land well enough (finally after 5 years of owning and managing my land ) you know where the main trails are and where they like to move. Like catman said. When the rut is on. Your likely to see a buck at anytime of the day. I've just been really blessed the last 7-8 years. I've not killed monsters. But for my area they are good deer. Anything over 120 inch around here is huge and hard to come by.

On the flip side. My boy has killed 9 deer and in 4 years. 7 bucks and 2 doe. Youth day and then rifle season. This year he got lucky and hit our target buck. 145 inch 10 point on youth day. I've hunted 30 years and never seen a deer that big in the woods with my own eyes. He's ruined now. He passed a good 6 point last week. I just shot a 8 point. 6 point comes out. I get him turned into position. He looks though the scope. And said "nah, don't wanna end my season on a smaller deer". I was pretty impressed with his decision at 9. He knows now letting younger bucks walk pays off eventually.

My 2 biggest bucks were killed between 1pm and 1:30pm. If the weather is right and i am comfortable I like all day sits. Take in some food, drinks and a power pk to charge my phone.
I enjoy these as well but it seems like they make me awfully stiff the next day. All that sitting still is probably not good for the body.

I do think the big boys can pattern us. A couple times a year I'll hit the stand from 10 ish till 3. Always feels weird to leave then. It's usually a combo of mixing it up and time constraints on me. I've had success before.
