12 days into 2020 season and TN hunters have removed over 22,000 Turks from the woods. Compare that to a little over 31,000 for ALL of 2019.

Yep thats mowing'em down. I think it will slow down as the season goes on.
I suspect it will slow too. However, the damage of removing so many gobblers so early is the lasting scar.

remember that the weather for region 2 last year was awful for a couple of weeks....
For sure, the weather this year has been great for the most part. Add that to an unprecedented number of people either off work or working from home and it's no wonder we have killed so many.

My hunting time has be severely limited to my daughter being home. But it's off set from the high school seniors, college students, kid less hunters and hunters with older children.
Like Bucket, I've been 100% unsuccessful in the two hunts I have had. Although, it wasn't from lack of seeing or hearing any Turks.

Yeah I think hunters being successful is a good thing.. Seems to be a minority opinion around here.. I am kind of surprised actually because I have been struggling but obviously there are more gobblers out there than people think..?

We can circle back in a year to see if next years harvest falls off absent any other factors!

Success is a good thing. But timing is important. Summer poult surveys for the last several years - and in-field observations from many, many people who spend a lot of time outside - indicate that we don't have more gobblers than we thought. We're just killing a bigger percentage of what's there. And we're killing them weeks before most hens start nesting. It will be 2 years before we see the effects, but I think we'll pay for all the early success this year in the years to come.

I agree with all that but we shall see! Obviously some Reg changes coming by then so might be hard to tell. I can report I saw more poults and Jakes last year than the prior 2. I am also hearing a few more gobblers.

Turkeys were acting real frisky at the end of February, I'm guessing and hoping the early spring weather got more hens bred before season. Definitely looks like there will be fewer gobblers to hunt next year, but hopefully the hatch is a good one.

Ames has killed 22 turkeys nine days into the season and that's nearly what we do in a whole season. But, there are plenty of gobblers to go around. I think it will get tougher and already noticed a reduction in gobbling from the pressure. Turkeys have a way of adapting. All they have to do to keep me from killing one is to be quiet.
