870 Express Just Curious

I traded for this gun in 1991 from Hulme's sporting goods in Paris, TN. I have traded guns for over 50 years never seen another 870 Express like this one, (not to say there isn't any) I just haven't seen one. Has the same checkering pattern as the 870 Wingmaster and beautiful walnut wood. It has set in my safe unfired for all these years. Been looking for the box but after building a new house about 25 years ago it got lost. Anybody seen one like this?

What a beautiful shotgun. I'm no gun dealer but I have never seen that checkering pattern and that quality of walnut on a 870 before? Very nice!

99% sure someone bought an express and swapped the stock and fore end with a Wing Master stock and fore end. Expresses never had wood like that.

The gun was brand new when I traded for it in the box!!

Then it must have been some kind of odd custom order because the express wood was always a very plain birch or laminate. Walnut was reserved for the wingmasters

Could be they did some special runs of 410's years ago I guess

That's what I think, the more I check into it.

I think you may be greatly benefiting from the recent popularity of the 410

My favorite 870 express .410 has about 1/16" of varnish on the featureless stock from the factory. That one is phenomenal, every thing I would want (except choke tubes) in that gun!
