An honorable death

You said there were old wounds from 2-3 weeks ago. Has their season been open that long or do you think someone tried to poach him? Thanks for posting the story.
Down there the season opens when they start gobbling, which can be February. Not kidding, it's a whole nother world!

Pellet wound channels were yellow with a hint of green. No purple to purple-green. Usually that makes me think around 2-4 weeks old. Juvie started last weekend, so he was def shot before juvie. Prob what cut a few of his tail feathers as well.

Congratulations! Great story too. My cousin is using that same vest this year and loves it so far.

I LOVE the light weight and openness of the vest. But I don't think I'm going to like the pouch on the back for the water bladder as it heats up. I sweat a lot and don't like any part of my back covered. I've used a fanny pouch to keep calls, strikers, rangefinder, and snacks/ water in the past. I can get to my calls so much easier now, and less chance of dropping/ losing them.

I don't use a rangefinder in MS. No open fields, and everything I see in the woods is in range by default.

Good bird! What type of shotgun and shells did you use........That close in would be easy to miss.

rem 870 20g with Fed TSS #9's and .562-5 sumtoy. More wiggle room up close than a 555. But yes, I initially thought I missed him as there was a slight rise between us and he crumpled behind the tree. I didn't see him run off, and when I stood, I could easily see him right there. But I just about missed, it was a very quick shot with a lot of transition just prior to the shot.

Sounds like a great hunt. Now tell me about this new seat.
Just a knight and hale run and gun vest. No frills, no silly turkey pouch in the back. Seat is comfy for my crotchety old ***** and the vest is light. Gotta figure out what to do with the box call pouch tho. I dont use box calls. Right now I'm just stuffing it with my turkey tote and snack bars :)

Thanks! I'll check it out. I quit using a vest because I get way too hot but gotta have a comfortable seat or I'm done. Been using a turkey lounger seat and bag for calls but looked online at a vest by Alps with no back and a 3" cushion.

Run and gun is a great vest, I love mine. one of the best features, IMO, is that the cushion is cinched to your butt at all time if its set up right. In other words, no matter if your sitting or running, its on your butt. no awkward reaching back and trying to unlatch it or unfold it to sit in a hurry, its already there.

Congrats on a exciting and successful hunt Mega

Congrats & thanks for the story. Really enjoyed reading it and felt the anticipation with every sentence!
Now go get you another one we've still got a couple weeks to kill up here!
