I got to spend some good time with my parents for the rifle opener and hunt on their land. First two days were considerably slower than expected based on how much traffic that land usually gets. Then on Sunday night with only 10 mins or so left of shooting light this 8 pointer came running in zig zags with his nose to the ground. Must have been following a doe I missed while I was looking in another direction.

Monday morning I slept in after a long night of quartering as it was just on the edge of being cool enough to hang this deer overnight. That afternoon I linked up with my friend, the legendary Catman, to hunt some public. He directed me to an area he is curious about but never has scouted or hunted it. I scouted, found sign, and did see two that were too far and behind too much thick stuff to get a shot at. One was definitely a running doe. The other was moving slow, might have been a buck following her, couldn't tell for sure.

Then on Tuesday morning I had a quick hunt. Probably 45 mins after sunrise this goofy racked 8 pt came by. He broke a tine on the right side. We've got video of it before that. Must have been fighting.

There's a 2nd buck like this on the trail cameras. My Dad and I have seen videos of them both. The other one is also an 8 with the left side being goofed up.

I drove back to SC with a lot of meat and great memories. My friend is doing an euro mount for me of the first buck.

Hopefully I can get one more before it's over. A week before this trip, I got one here on public land. But after fully processing 3 deer in 2 weeks, I'm done for a bit anyway and am plenty grateful for what I've got in the freezer. I'll get the itch again in a week or so.

Congratulations on the bucks brother.
