MS opens tomorrow. AL next week. Who's planning a head start before the TN season opens? Me and a couple buddies are going to MS next week to try a piece of public ground for the first time. My expectations are tempered since we'll be learning the lay of things on the fly. But my soul can't handle another three weeks of stress without spending some uninterrupted time in the woods with a purpose. If I knew right now that I wouldn't hear a gobble or see a turkey, I would still pack up and go.

I usually start out in Alabama, I just watch the weather and head that way for at least 3 days if it's nice. I always get worked up waiting for it to open in TN to the point that I can't stand it anymore and head that way!

Alabama next 2 weekends for me. I'll be able to hunt Mondays which will be nice

Not I, but I've got 2-3 buds in MS this morning for the opener. I told them I needed daily reports so I could live vicariously through them. :)

mega, spurhunter and a few other TnD members should be at it this weekend if the weather allows.

Heading to SC next Sat for the Sunday opener.
Good luck, several changes for residents and non-residents this season. They've tightened limits up and restricted when hunters can kill them, sort of like Missouri. Hopefully it'll help the turkey population over time.

I don't have a kid young enough for the juvenile hunt this year so I won't be going this year till regular opener. When is that? First Saturday in April?

Planned on hunting a buddy place in MS but when I got there this morning 2 trucks where there. Guess he gave permission to couple other guys also. They had already left there trucks and not know where they were, just decided to go home

I've logged 16 miles so far on the boots the past 2 weeks. A week of preseason scouting, plus last week of juvie season.

I saw my first Turkey yesterday evening calling from a likely roost spot hoping to lure a tom in to tee up for this morning. Had a single hen come in silent.

This morn was calm and overcast. No gobbles on my starting spot. I relocated and actually had a group of 10 hens without a tom cross the road in front of me. I looped around them and set up on them, but couldn't get a gobble. I then moved to the spot I teed up last night and had a conversation with a single hen (prob the one I called up last night). I was hoping our squawking would elicit a gobble, but nothing.

I heard no shots.

2 other guys were hunting. One heard nothing but found a track. The other actually heard a bird gobble in the limb about 500y off our south border, but no sign on our lease.

I have Monday off and am actually looking forward to hitting public land 30min away.

Hoping to head south to Florida Thursday but things are starting to get a little tough with all the extra curricular activity in the world lately...

My kids are on permanent spring break now. Already cancelled our TX trip next weekend.. :bash: :bash: :bash:

Yep this sure is making things difficult. I'm concerned the states are going to close a lot of the campgrounds.

Birds gobbled relatively well this morning. I called 2 longbeards in to 66 yards and couldn't get them to break. My cousin was an hour east on another place we hunt and he killed a double beard with 1 inch spurs. It was the best MS opener weather wise I can remember. No coat. No base layer. It's hot now though.

Rained off and on first couple hours of the day where I was at in MS. Zero gobbles. Called in 2 jakes.

Afternoon was a bust. Called up a hen and that's it. Didn't roost one either. Still fired up about the morning. Hopefully they'll gobble like they did today.
