Anybody starting early?

Not much to report today. Lots of tweety birds calling nonstop, but no turkey talk in 6 spots I checked this morn.

I did see a hen on the side of the road feeding about 3 miles from my lease.

mega - your mornings are sounding like SOME of mine over the last 3-5 years. With that said, a walk in the woods observing nature beats the heck out of work or sitting in front of a TV. Hope they shift on to your property here soon.

I'm still having a blast. Love listening to the woods wake up. I know there will be a bird shift onto the lease sometime this season, just hoping the other semi-hardcore hunters get bored and give up first. But I do wish I could at least hear a gobble!

Perfect, beautiful spring morning. Couldn't ask for one better. We heard 2 gobbles from 2 different birds in 2 different directions, in 2 different counties. We covered a big portion of the 900 acres and never struck a bird. Didn't even get a hen to respond. It was just one of those days. As bad as it sucked I can not wait to get back Thursday afternoon! There is nothing more exciting and more addictive than getting on a gobbling bird, but days like today suck. I guess it's true what Dave Owens says: You earn every one. Maybe not the day you kill him. But sometime, somewhere, you earned him. I think I earn about 100 for every 1 I kill. :tu:

That sounds about right. Good luck Thursday.

Thanks! Not sure how much I'll hunt Thursday. Won't be down until afternoon and I've got a little work to do on my camper. But I'll definitely try to roost one. Going to hunt Friday and Saturday for sure.

Fine bird and he died honorably while setting the woods on fire.

Public land Desoto National Forest. Story later. Got a bit of a hike to go

Congrats! Good looking bird

Congrats mega. Killing them in open woods to boot, definitely makes your blood pump as he approaches with his softball size head up looking for the hen. It doesn't get any better than that IMO.

5 more miles covered on my lease with my son. We found a single hen on one spot yest pm, and 2 hens on a trail cam on another spot. No gobbler tracks or sign.

I'm going back to national forest tomorrow to scout a couple spots I pinned on satellite imagery, hoping to tee up something for Sat am. TN season cant open soon enough.... I hate it for my daughter who is a senior and had her prom cancelled (which was opening day of TN season) but now I will be able to hunt opening day in TN.

Supposed to rain all day tomorrow in my area so I got some stuff done today and driving down tomorrow to hunt the weekend. Probably won't rain a drop!
