This deer js certainly not on our shooter list unless this condition is fatal or is causing him anguish. I know this kind of swelling is indicative of arterial worms. Do deer recover from this or is ita death sentence. I have read both it seems.

Is there supposed to be a pic? My understanding is that how the deer will do depends on how bad they are infected with the worms. A heavy load obviously is going to be more devastating than a light load. Makes me wonder if a medicated block like safegard might help with worms in deer that were affected. Obviously that is not an option in cwd zone.

Most 2.5-3.5 year old bucks are in much more danger from bullets and arrows. I think that deer will be just fine till hunting season

I had a neighbor on florida that got a vet to give him some medicine for a wild doe with this condition and they managed to get her one a medicated bait pile. Not sure how it worked out but last I'd heard they'd gotten her to eat the medicine.
