Asking for advise/ 20ga choke n tss

Factory full or even modified shoot great with tss in most guns, especially if you're looking for a little bigger "hunting" pattern for a youth.
Sage advice here. Tungsten shot (TSS) does not like to be over-choked, but you cannot make the masses believe it. 50 years of over-choking lead shot is a hard habit to break. Good luck!

My factory choke in my tri star holds a super tight pattern with the apex ninja 8.5's. I tried the Burgess Creek #9 and it blew the pattern too much for me. As good as the factory shoots I haven't tried anything else.

I have a Carlson's I'm not sure I'll ever use. Pretty sure it's the benelli crio as tri star is compatible with them. If you end up getting a gun that it'll fit you're more than welcome to try it.

Not necessarily true, im choking my 20 down to 555 and getting amazing results

I use a Stevens 301 20 gauge with a carlsons longbeard xr choke and use federal tss 3 inch 9 shot with a truglo gobbler stopper red dot. This is a great combo for me. I tried the carlsons tss choke and it didn't do as well as the longbeard xr choke.

Carlson has sev chokes for tss. I like tss, now l hunt with my model 42 winchester 410. As you well know, tss isn't needed. Lord knows how many we've killed with just heavy loads back in the day.

i'm glad to see some mention of other than full chokes for the 20. i'm going to carry my old model 37 winchester (or a bow) this spring. i've killed birds with it, but wasn't happy with the patterns really. is 20 gauge 2 & 3/4 in ammo available with the TSS ? and will it burn me another one buying it ?:D

Yes, it's available and yes, it burns a little to buy. Lol. The pattern and effectiveness are worth it tho. Some people don't like the price, but for how many (or few) I shoot in a season, it's not the most expensive thing about turkey hunting. I do load my own, but if I didn't, I'd certainly buy them. Try you some Apex #9s and I think you'll be blown away.

one or two shots a season, i'd be happy! gas used to be my biggest expense, but Alabamas NR license has gone up from the $65 for ten days i used to be able to buy... i should just buy a year-long & go ahead & hunt deer too. that way the license is covered for turkeys.

Sorry guys. I haven't kept up with this thread. Had family issues going on. At this point she hasn't expressed any interest. Yet. I will probably borrow one of my brother's 20ga when the time comes. He suggested his Remington 1100 20ga should be easier on her shoulder.

Don't over choke it....go watch youtube videos by the "Blue Collar Outdoors" guys, they have many videos shooting dozens of different chokes, dozens of different shells through several different shotguns and the results are pretty conclusive.

No need to break the bank either. My son and I both shoot 870 youth 20 gauges with the Cabela's Turkey Choke.

I am pretty certain it's made by Carlsons for Cabela's and its a 575" constriction and with #9 TSS the pattern at 40 is about as perfect as you'd want...out of both guns we are getting a very evenly spread pattern with about 90% of the pellets inside a 20" circle at that distance.

In the past 2 years we've taken 7 birds at ranges from about 7 to 40 yards and in every case it was bang, flop.

Good luck!!

If you decide on an Indian Creek I have a brand new #0012 555 that has never been shot. I'd take $50 bucks for and ship it to you. It will fit all Remington and I think some Charles daily

That's a hot core, waaaay tighter/denser pellet count than I am willing to hunt with. What does it look like at 20 yards?
Its really not that bad, about a 6-7 inch pattern! I like it that way because most places i kill birds is pretty thick, if i can get a hint of his noggin through the understory i can get a few pellets to him. This bird was 25 yards through the mountain laurel and ivy all i could see was his bright white head

had it been out in the open it would have been mush, the brush catches way more pattern than we think so i like em tight

Truth. The trulock Pinhoti .585 is another good one.

what's everyone thoughts on ported choke tubes as far as recoil reduction? Just pulled out an 870 youth a bought a long time ago and will try to turkey hunt with it this year in hopes my little ones will use in the coming years.
