A buddy of mine called yesterday, frustrated about not being able to get a bird to finish...and me, loving a good challenge, said "let's go this evening". He wasn't too confident, but I know the area he hunts has tons of birds. So, we meet at 5:00 yesterday p.m., and take off towards some of his fields. The first field we come to has 2 different sections to it. In the first section, there are 2 longbeards and a couple of hens. The other section has another longbeard and about a dozen hens. We get around the back side of the property through the woods, I'd say, about 100 yds from where I thought the longbeards were, in the field....and one gobbles in the field. We proceed to sneak within about 50 yds of the field to set up, and two deer come busting out of a laydown. "Great", I thought.."We're screwed". I pull the binocs up and can see the birds staring towards where the deer came busting out of. They finally settle down and I get to work on them. Before I know it, they're in a sprint to see which one was going to "have" that hen. Turns out, that hen had a little boom to her. Total hunt took about 10 minutes. Gotta love them vocal afternoon birds!!

Awesome, congrats! You got a pic? I can't wait to get out again this Sunday afternoon... I work in the evenings every day now except sunday... gonna try again for an evening bird. Kind of a race against time cause you know they will fly up soon.

Very nice! I love quick hunts. Between work, baseball/ softball practice with the kids, and church that's all I get is short hunts.
