Like most non-Vols fans, I remember pointing out some concerns Vols fans should have had with Butch's hiring of Debord as OC and what that decision represented in a number of respects. Got bashed and ridiculed for that one. Here's the thing, the head coach is the CEO and the coordinators are the COOs. Head coach isn't calling the plays. It wasn't the head coach (or Debord) whose defense couldn't stop UF on 5 4th down conversions. 5! FIVE! Including a 4th and 16!!!! Haven't seen any Vols fans call for the DC's job. The OC and the DC are all hired by Butch. What I posted back in February should be resonating today, but unlike GNB, I don't know how to bookmark those posts (and GAtor's calls on Dobbs were on point and prescient). Of course the Vols are going to sit on a 4th quarter lead and end up going 3 and out. Your OC is a Michigan Man. He's predictable.
Vols fans should be very concerned with Butch. He can recruit, but he hasn't made good coordinator hiring decisions and his game decisions are woeful. The head coach decides whether to go for it on 4th down, whether to go for 1 or 2, whether to call a timeout (I guess not all of the UF 4th conversion debacles can be blamed on the DC), etc.
But you are stuck with him for several more years. Now the AD, that's another story.
