Well...after over 10 years of bowhunting, it finally happened. My bow string broke when I was shooting today. I can't complain...it has been on my Hoyt Xtec since I bought it new in 2005. Never showed any sign of wear that I could tell. Last time I took it to the shop, they said "there was nothing wrong with that string".

Since there is no Hoyt dealer in our area, I was thinking of going to Bass Pro to have it replaced. Anyone have any experience with bow cables and strings at BP and any advice? I have some Reward Points built up and thought that might be a good way to spend them. I'd rather go to a local, Hoyt shop...but none around here. Appreciate any advice. thanks.

I had to replace mine last year and had a man custom make me a string and a set of cables. Cost me about 70 bucks total. picked out the colors and everything. You want the info let me know. He was really nice to talk to and will turn you one around and have it back in 7 days. I love my string.

I would go with a string made of 452X , either a Winner's Choice or Vapor Trail are my two favorites . Any reputable bow shop can order and replace a string and cable for you . They don't have to be a Hoyt dealer .

I have Proline Bowstrings on my bow now. They have been a very good set of strings compared to the factory strings that came on the bow. I will have to replace them this year though and will probably go with Winner's Choice or Vapor Trail.
My brother has America's Best Bowstrings (ABB) on his hoyt and he likes them.

I went all the way to Bass Pro shop. They didn't have the right length string, could NOT order it AND they do not carry nor order any cables!!!! I found that to be unbelieveable! An outfit that big can't get strings or cables???? So...against my better judgment, I stopped by Gander Mountain on the way home. I was VERY SURPRISED. While they didn't have the right length strings, they were able to order them and the cables. I went with Winner's Choice. I have heard several recommendations of them and the tech their highly recommended them. He was very nice, I left my bow their and actually felt pretty good about the whole thing. We will see in a couple of weeks how it all turns out. Thanks so much for the help and advice.

Great! I have never had work done on my bow at Gander Mountain but I talked with one of their archery guys last year and he was very nice! Seemed to know what he was talking about too!

You should have went to Sportsman Choice out in Halls he is a Hoyt dealers and will do you right. But Gander Mt. has a guy that worked at eagle wings back when they where open thats pretty good at working on bows. Good luck to you

Thought I would use those Reward points I have been saving up for "such a time as this". But...that didn't go so well.

Bass Pro can order your strings and cables, but it takes them forever for some reason.

They told me that they couldn't order strings and they didn't even sell cables. I tried to get them to order them for me.

Thanks for the heads up. I know one place I WON'T be taking my bow for its tune up ;)

Order a set from wicked one strings! You won't regret it!

Ok, I didn't want to high jack the thread, but I'm going to say this. I wouldn't order a thing from this company. I have had my own bad experience with them and will never buy anything Wicked1 again. Also, they have been banned from archery talk. I am assuming because they kept tell people there strings were/would be shipped to them and they weren't. Along with promising tracking numbers and not giving them or, as in my case, giving the wrong one. Also, seems like the reason was always the USPS lost them. I know they don't hold up to the no questions asked part of their one year warranty. I sent mine back to see if they would hold up to fixing the serving. I did it mainly to show the guy his strings weren't to good to have serving separation. Which was the attitude I felt I got when I contacted him about it. I don't know if I'll get mine back or not but they will not be back on my bow.

I already had Gander Mtn order some winner's choice strings and cables for my bow. Hopefully they will be on the bow in the next week or so.

As for Sportsman's Choice in Halls - I have heard so many people either love him or hate him, I think the man is Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde. Because of that, I have stayed away from there. Someone on here recommended an archery shop in Morristown that was a Hoyt dealer. I took my bow to them for a tune-up. I was pleased with them, but they are just too far away.

There is a shop in Crossville that is a Hoyt dealer...but the guy who owns the shop there is a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality. Sometimes you can go in there and get great service, sometimes they won't even acknowledge that you are there and sometimes I have drove all the way there...and he had closed the shop that day to pursue some other activity.
