When they break one this young, will it heal right and have a normal antler next year, or is he doomed to be an oddball? Never have seen one break it, usually they break the antler off real short and it is fine the next year.
I've heard that pedicle injuries like that can actually cause deer to die.
When he sheds off that broken side, chances are a big piece of skull is gonna break off with it which can lead to brain infections/abscesses.
If he survives, he would have a shot at becoming normal in a couple of years depending on how damaged his pedicle is.
He has a broken skull plate which can lead to infection and or death. I had one last year that healed that way. He appeared to be fine but I haven't seen him this year so not sure what happened to him.
As others pointed out, that appears to be a broken skull plate rather than a damaged pedicle. I think his odds of survival are low. Broken skull plates almost always lead to brain infections, which are fatal.
