• Help Support TNDeer:

Busy morning with plenty of target practice.

Normally I leave coyotes where they die. If it's one of prime spots I will drag ema couple yards away and leave em.
Yea two were directly on the deer travel path and when some deer came in they definitely got skittish. They were walking around on high alert and wouldn't continue down the path. Those are the two yotes that came out with me.

Dang dude y'all must have em thick there! Great shooting.
Sitting around the fire at night especially in the hot summer nights you can hear them sounding off left and right. I say I'm the only one around the area that is hunting and definitely the only one trapping. I believe they were "pairing" up for the upcoming breeding season before finding a suitable den location and it was a heavy frost in the area also.

Have fun cleaning your MZ. I bet that thing stinks.
That's the reason why I went smokeless .45 cal. It's been shot probably around 40 times with no cleaning and the 40th bullet went down just as easy as the first. After shooting a smokeless .45 I don't think I can ever go back the other way unless a state I was hunting requires it.

That's wild...and all that after 9am..crazy..
Yea this time of year i don't get in a hurry of getting up before daylight. Even though I was helping my neighbor this morning I would have still waited till 9-10 to get in the woods. I find it easier not to freeze, I can carefully walk into the stand and with bucks being dumb I can get away with it. It also helps me stay on stand during midday which I like hunting the most when it's cold during the rut. One of the biggest reason I can do that in this stand location is cause this area is a "pinch point" so they're not there to bed or feed and just walking by getting to one spot to the next.

That's a hunt to remember there, be hard to top that day. Total time in the woods <1hr with 5 kills, I thought that only happened in Video games lol
I wished my youngest wasn't at school cause I could have covered him for back up shots if need be. If I knew it was going to be like that this morning then I would have told his teacher "sorry but this morning is coyote killing prime time and he won't be there till after lunch" lol

Got in the woods around 9am after helping my elderly neighbor around the house. It's a short EASY walk to my ladderstand so I just carried my muzzleloader in the case to the stand and I'm glad I did. I get settled in and about 20 minutes later I hear steady steps in the frosty leaves. I look to my right and see a coyote coming down the trail. Instantly a deer hunt turns into coyote killing. I squeak at him to get him to stop and BANG he's dead. Get my muzzleloader reloaded and same thing here comes another squeak and BANG she's dead. I reload again and 30 minutes later I hear steps again but out front to the left thinking it was a deer. NOPE another coyote, squeak squeak he stops BANG he's dead. Now I'm wondering how many reloads do I have in my case. I double check and see I have 2 left so I think I'm good. I don't get reloaded hardly at all and crunch crunch. I look to where I just killed the 3rd coyote and THERE'S ANOTHER ONE. Squeak squeak BANG she's dead and now I have 4 dead coyotes laying around me. I reload my muzzleloader and text @MUP and ask if the coyote rut is on. Im thinking about the thread we had last year about do you shoot a coyote when it's prime rut time and I remember it was about half and half yes and no. Well I'm thinking my morning is over but just about the time Im about to get down I hear chasing and look up and a small 6 is chasing two does. I whistled and the biggest doe stopped. BANG she drops and NOW I AM DONE cause I'm all out of reloads lol. What a wonderful morning to be in the woods and it was one of the more exciting hunts. I loaded up my deer cart with a doe and 2 coyotes and struggled getting out of the woods. Got back to the truck and thought "yup those other two with stay in the woods cause I was worn out" View attachment 156141
Carry a pistol for the yotes!!

When was the last time you got to shoot 5 critters in one morning? Sounds like a lot of fun. I've decided to shoot coyotes this year too. I've only been able to get one but the season is still young. Kill 'em all!
