We're in the middle of a 21 hour drive home from NW Colorado. We had a great trip! The usual areas we hunt had little to no sign. We decided to go higher up and scout an area we found a few years ago. The day before season we found a heard of about 60. 3 different bulls bugling all morning. We somehow had the bowl to ourselves most of the week that usually has people lined up at the trail head to get in there.
We played cat and mouse with this herd all week. My buddy was able to shoot a cow and a bull on Tuesday afternoon.
I was covered up with cows, spikes, and non legal bulls all week! We saw the heard bull twice, but most days he would stay in the timber bugling while his cows fed in front of us. Can't wait to make it back out there next year!

That's unusual to find a trailhead that's not covered up with Texas and California tagged vehicles. Glad you were able to find a spot and connect! It's killing me to not go this year. Looks like you had good weather also.

Last year we got there early and then there were 6 trucks parked behind us. Blew the elk out before daylight! Weather was not great the first few days then was perfect the rest of the trip!
