Welp, I checked one of my trail cams and had quit ethe surprise. Had one picture of 4 sheriff's department deputies walking in my family's woods. My father who owns the property did not get a call or notice; would have had no idea they were on the property if I didn't have a camera up. They didnt seem to be in any hurry by the looks of the picture as they were walking. Curious to see what y'all think I should do to figure out why were walking around there. I figured I could call the department and give them the time/date/location and they would be able to match up the cruiser gps and figure out why they were there in the first place?

You can call but I HIGHLY doubt they will tell you anything.

Couple years ago my sister-in-law heard them run a license plate number, on their scanner.
She heard it plain as day, it was mine.
It was like midnight and I was fast asleep and hadn't left the house since I got home from work that day about 2:30.
I called and asked them why they were running my license plate.
Can't remember her exact words but basically she said they don't have to tell me, and won't.

Not all cruisers have gps, more than likely they had someone run / escape and was looking for them

They won't need any car GPS stuff, just call them with a date and time and tell them you are the property owner. They will probably tell you what happened.

I recently was looking back at my cameras to check my skunk situation. At 1:30 in the morning I saw flashlights flashing all over the place and then saw an Officer walk down my driveway and look though my backyard. I never called to find out why they were there, I assume they were chasing or tracking someone.

I would definitely demand to know why they were trespassing without permission or warrant
No and no.

Don't demand and they aren't trespassing or need a warrant if they're on official business, investigating a crime or potential crime.

I seriously doubt a bunch of deputies decided the meet off some backwoods logging road to hang out. They'll tell you why they were there if you're polite about it.

Yes and yes, last I checked its my property

10-4.

Sooooo.....when they're chasing a bad guy and they're hopping fences, they're trespassing??

Better yet, they're pursuing a poacher that happens to be on your property. They need your permission to investigate said crime?

Good luck with that. I'll leave it there and remain quiet from here on out. Not trying to be a smart ass, I'm just telling you the way it is.

I tend to give the cops the benefit of the doubt. I'm assuming like others they are after someone and potentially keeping them away from my family. I'd just assume them run them through my property than have to call me and ask permission while their breaking into my building to hide. I know it's " mine" but to me, their the good guys. Just my opinion.
