Got 250 cows with calves and atleast that many coyotes that will go after them. I have been told that a farmer/ livestock producer has " no limitations to protecting his livestock" . My question is would no limitations include putting them down with a rifle at night and a particular night time optic?

Sounds like a question for your local officer. Tennessee did just approve night hunting with thermals/night vision and electronic callers last year. Only negative is it's with shotgun. You may be able to get some type of permit saying otherwise though. I think it opens on Jan 18. I help a buddy in Mississippi with his predator issues and it's some of the most fun hunting I've ever done.

From my very limited 1w experience night hunting last year... you don't need a rifle. The yoties were in our lap and easily killed with a shotgun when we called them in at night. Had a few that got to 20y of us before we could get on them.

Looking forward to a much extended night hunting season in 2025.

Interesting.
I was thinking after dark changed things as far as calling.

Appreciate the replies. I've smoked plenty during coldest mornings and have quit using Rabbit distress and gone to birds and smaller things. That has been my call of success in the hills of Middle TN.

All these are from last February and I added atleast 5 more to it before the month was over. No telling how many I could have gotten at night.

I've heard that. I had a coworker tell me he actually got nervous because they came in so close and so quickly.

Do you have any recommendations or experiences with any? I'm looking for a high quality one- either a monocular or gun mounted scope. Thank you.
I personally have AGM 640 resolution thermals and I've been very happy with them. Guys I hunt with use either AGM, Pulsar or Iray. It really comes down to personal preference like anything else but try and get your hands on some different brands before you actually purchase one. Several new ones came out at shot show last week that look very good.

Thank you sir!

I too am excited for the new night hunting possibilities in TN. I have looked into setting up a dedicated "night" shotgun with thermal but have been told that a shotgun recoil is VERY unfriendly to thermal scopes. Pay to play is what I was told, need a really expensive one to survive 12 gauge recoil. I am not willing to do that. Am I being told a bunch of crap?

I contacted AGM about this not long ago. Different manufacturers have different specs but mine can withstand approximately 36 foot pounds of free recoil energy. They recommended using this energy calculator.

Try Tacswap for deals second hand. Kenzies optics is a reputable dealer and in GA. There are so many thermal options out there now.
