He left because Bobby Knight mistreated him, or he didn't want to play basketball the way Bobby Knight wanted it played? Knight was big on a motion offense, which requires players to be unselfish rather than one or two person being the star.

Knight was a great coach who knew basketball inside and out. He knew kids too. He knew how to motivate them to do more than they ever imagined possible, and got them to buy into his way of playing. The 4 and 5 star recruits were not willing (as a rule) to do that, so he did it with "lesser" talent but better men. It was hard and harsh but he knew basketball and coaching. And his players HAD to go to class and graduate or they didn't play.

He kicked his own son on when his son played for him. He choked players. He made them all cram around him and watch him crap.

Have you listened to the eyewitness testimony of Pat Knight and Neil Reid and the other players? Those two instances are laughable in how they got blown way out of proportion and were completely used to target Bob Knight for no wrongdoing. Have you heard Bobby Knight talk about these things along with many others, being interviewed by basically hostile hosts? Knight was hard. He physically handled his players without a doubt, but never ever "abused" them. He yelled at them and cursed them, but his praises for their efforts far outweighed those things. Yes, many players hated him and still do, but it's that way with other coaches too.
 
Jumbotrons will now announce players, their position, their degree, the last three schools they attended, and their NIL value...

He has basically just cherry picked the ones he wanted and built his teams from High School ranks and developing the players he has recruited or gets rid of them at first light and moves onto the next ones that look promicing.

By all looks DeBoer appears to be doing a bit more dipping into the Portal than Saban but with the recent hire of Kane Wommack as DC it appears he understands the importance of filling in from the HS ranks as Kane Wommack has his pulse on the State Of ALABAMA football.
