After missing 3 times on Tuesday, I made sure it wasn't the gun's fault and assured myself that I would take my time and focus on the shot. Well...... That didn't happen! After hearing birds gobble in the disatnce this morning while nothing happened where I was set up, I decide to move to where I heard the gobbles. I set up in a field with the sun and water at my back and called in 4 birds. It took them forever (15 minutes) to work their way to me. My nerves got me and I rushed to shoot. I missed 3 times.... AGAIN!!!! I know for a fact that it is all me that's screwing up. So I decided I needed to go back to "iron sights" so that I know my head is down on the gun like it should be. Three stores later, I obtained a set ($45). I go to put the sights on and break a screw. So I was like, ok I'll just tighten the othe three down real good. NOPE! Broke another one! I'm gonna finish my Yuchi hunt in the morning since it took so long to draw it, but if I miss again, I'm done for the season. I'll just offer free guided trips to friends. I can get on them, just cant hit them.

You and Catman need to go hunt together. Maybe if you Get together there will be a break in the force and you guys can fix each other hahah

Sounds like you need a single shot turkey gun or try just putting one shell in your gun. If you know you only have one shot you will eventually stop rushing the shot.

I know how it is....good luck, try to remind yourself it's better for him to walk away than to rush the shot and feel your gut sinking as you watch him run away with 3 empty shells lying by your side. I wish I always took my time but I too have the same problem. Better luck next time

I had to quit using them turkey chokes...lol missed every turkey I ever shot at with them. I went back to the factory full and everything is right again. Guess I need a bigger pattern.

Hang in there and do not give up. As Dogman mentioned, you may want to try a factory full choke to spread out your pattern down range, this improving your odds of striking the target, even if you flinch or pull.

I might actually try that. I have a single shot that is full choke. Never crossed my mind

I'm using my old school 835 with the factory extra full. The pattern isn't all that tight. But I'm gonna try the full choke idea. Thanks

I killed my share with an 835 and extra full factory choke. Not sure how iron sights are gonna make you keep your head down. Most are the opposite as was I. When I bought the 835 decided no scope until I missed a couple. Knock on wood I haven't missed since putting a scope back on. Shooting an 870 now but have a scope. Good luck. Definitely sounds like you're in the birds.

I may go to a scope next year. Strongly considering it. My theory on the sights is, as long as it's sighted in and I line those three dots up, I'll hit. I took the rear sight off bc it got to where it moved too much and too easy. I heard that's a common problem with them.
