Doe down Sunday Sept. 29th!! YES!!!!

Here is the thing. If you are going to post this video, I am going to bust your chops!

WOW...made me sick.
I hate SPINE shots on deer. Not as bad as a gut shot, but still a very bad shot. You almost missed. VERY close to missing.
Obviously you did not hit where you were aiming.

It happens. I have done it and so has everyone else who has hunted long enough. If it hasn't happened to anyone else, it will given enough time.

But for me, when I spine shoot a deer, ACCIDENTALLY, I nock a second arrow and shoot the deer again as QUICKLY as I can. THe deer is worth me wasting another arrow and head because I SCREWED UP! For two reasons.

One-because it may be a spine SHOCK, not shot. And the deer might just run away after a brief recovery.

And two...(very well depicted in this video...) IT IS VERY PAINFUL TO THE ANIMAL...EXTREMELY PAINFUL.
And I sure as heck would not be bragging about causing pain and suffering to an animal on a talk forum.

Congrats on your kill but when you spent more time doing post video as the animal laid terrified and in great pain, you lost my support.

good hunting, BAD choices.

One should NEVER be happy about causing an animal to go through great suffering.

You should have shot her a second time or NOT done any more video work and at least gotten down to finish her off.

If anyone who is relatively new to the sport of archery sees this video and wonders what is going on here, this is it.

NOBODY (good hunter) deliberately spines shoots a broadside deer.
It is a poor shot selection.

I didn't see the doe in this video sit still long enough to present a clean follow up shot.

I agree that a quick follow up shot is needed in a spine shot situation but I'm not going to empty a quiver of 5 arrows on a doe rolling around on the ground. It might take some time for the doe to lay still enough to make an ETHICAL follow up shot.

102,
Thank you for your input, now with respect I will provide my "2 cents" to your bashing or "busting my chops".
I see you have more hunting experience than I have. I started bowhunting in 2008 and have basically self taught all the skills I know to date with exception of a few guys along the way. I in no way have the desire to "intentionally" spine shoot a deer nor appreciate your accusatory style of commentary. It is with high respect to the deer and the sport of hunting to provide a well placed shot; and since you were not there to guide me, maybe I could have done better (hardly). I wonder how a deer that has an arrow shot perfectly say "double lung" and runs for a mile feels? Bet it is feeling what you stated "IT IS VERY PAINFUL TO THE ANIMAL...EXTREMELY PAINFUL" don't you think?
Also, if you took the time to listen on frame marker 1:06 I stated "I gotta get another arrow"... hmm sounds like my ethics are in order and had to evaluate some priorities first:
1- Calm down and relax to focus
2- Look for opportune shot (one never came available while in stand due to tree limbs and vegetation)
3 - I'm 15+ feet up in a climber, not gonna rush down in a hurry and risk making a foolish climbing mistake. (rather see my family outside of hospital walls)
4- When the deer rolled over, it shoved my arrow into it's lung therefore it died pretty quick compared to a gut shot deer!
So within the 97 seconds of the video, I think I did pretty good.
In no way am I looking for an online bashing deal, that's immature and plain stupid. We all can learn things from each other and having video's of our hunts help all of us to learn more of this great sport. My youngest son was able to view this and learn some things from my experience. When he goes out to hunt and has this happen to him, I will know that he will have both knowledge and understanding of how to deal with the deer and have the respect to try and provide the best shot placement at all times.
Hope this clears any misconception and any "harsh feelings" you may have towards me. I'm not a people pleaser but will not allow anyone to trash talk me from a hip shot reaction. Let's all be wise in our commentaries, we can either encourage or tear down.

Probably the best rebuttal post I've ever read on any forum any time. 102 I enjoy your posts but he's right. Your opinion was strong, a little out of line and accusatory.

First of all, congrats on the deerI sincerely mean that....I love to see enthusiasm and someone having the time of their life when hunting! However, I completely understand the meaning behind 102's post, and I hope you did also. I purposely have not posted in this thread until I could gather my thoughts without coming out wrong, let it be void of emotions and let it not be a bashing thread102 as basically covered everything already. This is probably your first time having this happen, and so here is my take on a couple of things I would suggest in case it happens againhope it doesn't. First, as soon as that arrow hit you should have immediately been fumbling to nock another arrow, as anyone can see it was an obvious bad hit, and you should not have been worrying about that camera. Secondly, it appeared that you had plenty of time and free of obstructions starting at the 45sec mark until you turned the camera on yourself to get that follow up shot offwhich absolutely should have happened...you had no idea what was going on inside that deer's body. I understand I wasn't there, but it appears that the camera is mounted on the bow, and you had a clear of enough shot to capture the video, so the shot should have been made with an arrow and not with the lens. We, as Sportsmen, owe it to the game we hunt to put them far ahead of our own desires and needs and to take their lives as quickly and humanely as possible....at all reasonable costs .

In my opinion, I would never have posted this video on here, and especially not on YouTube, for the sole purpose it provides fodder and fuel for the anti-hunting communitythey hate what we do enough already, and they love using and showing this type of stuff to people that can be turned from non-hunters to anti-hunters in a heartbeat.

I hope this is not taken as a bash, as it is not the intentionmerely just pointing out some "constructive" things.

Congrats again!

Very well said TNDeerguy. I agree with you. You said it much better than I could have.

I will say this: I think cameras, hunting shows, and the internet are ruining hunting. These days the most important thing is not woodsmanship, ethical shots, and humane kills. The most important thing is did I get video, do my best Michael Waddell impersonation, and how fast can I get it on youtube? Videos like this and pics of 20 pound fawns covered in blood make it way too easy for antihunters to convert nonhunters.
