Experiences with a Moose outfitter in the lower 48

Outside of a commissioner, raffle or auction tag where can someone hunt Moose in the lower 48 without a crap pot full of preference/bonus points?

I went to Maine on a bear hunt and saw moose 5 out of 7 sits. Had a bull jump out in front of the guide truck on timber land. It trotted along in front of us for a few hundred yards after dark.

Killed this one in Wyoming last year 50 yards from a 2 track and about a 1/4 mile from camp!! Also have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale!
I'm obviously joking man. Like stated above, it would be a dang miracle. I'm just learning the whole western hunting deal. I was on a fire many years ago and a local in Montana I talked with said he has been applying for 30yrs with no luck. Difficult tag I hear.

Even Maine is difficult because you could draw with 1 point, or you may not draw with 20 points. The way Maine works is that your name goes into the "hat" as many times as you have points. So occasionally guys with very low points draw a moose tag, and they are not liked at all by the folks who have been putting in for lots of years and may never draw.

Canada is going to be the best option to get to hunt a moose

A friend from FL went on a 2 week river float hunt for moose in Alaska. Outfitter dropped him and a buddy of with their equipment with instructions to meet in 2 weeks at point X. They floated the river, stopping along the way to scout and hunt. About a week into the float, his buddy shot a very nice bull that they had heard calling while floating the river. My friend did not get a moose but said he would go back in a heartbeat. I don't know how difficult it was to get a tag, we didn't discuss the details prior to the hunt, but I got the impression that it was across the counter arranged by the outfitter.

Newfoundland is your best bet for a reasonable priced hunt. But don't expect a giant racked moose. If you are looking for a 60+ inch moose save you about $25k and go to AK with a guide. If you are adventurous, you can get dropped off on a promising looking lake for a DIY hunt but not for first timers. I went to Newfoundland and had a great time. I passed a small moose but got to chase a big one. Good luck!
