Favorite Caliber for 300 Yards and Under?

.300 Win Mag is my favorite no matter the yardage. Where I hunt I don't want them to run any at all because it adds a lot of work when they do. Loaded with 168 Berger VLDs I have been happy with that caliber for many years.

Hard to beat a .308 with 150g NBTs for 400y and in. Perhaps impossible.

I have shot a lot of deer with a 243, that said when I gave my son that rifle I started using my 300wm, have killed with 165g ballistic tip and found the 150g works just as well on whitetail deer. If I ever wanted to hunt bigger animals I can go over 200g, with that said I really don't want a bullet to pass through and maybe strike another deer, ya I know it would never happen lol, I would rather leave all the energy in the animal. I normally get a pass through, If you think it takes more than a 150g in a 30 caliber to kill deer I would love to see the ones that can shake off 150g lol

I'm a lever action guy first, but if I had to pick one rifle for any and all up to 300 yards, it'd be my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .308.

I like the 300 win mag as well very little drop at 300 and way way more then enough energy. Recoil is a little hard but when you have a deer in your scope you dont feel anything.

Love my 6.5x55 & 140gn Bergers or .223 with 77gn TMKs for deer inside 400yds.
.30-06 with 165 Accubonds if I'm out west with the chance of a much longer poke.

A 25-06 110 grain pill zeroed at 200 yds will be about an inch high at 100 yds and 6 inches low at 300 yds. All with low recoil for easier shooting.

My personal favorite is probably 6.8spc

If I were recommending one it would 308win, I like imr4895 with 150gr Nosler partitions or 165gr sgk myself

Im considering purchasing a new gun before the upcoming season and am curious what everyone prefers. A majority of my shots will under 300 yards. Let's hear your favorite

Mine is a Bergara 6.5 prc or I've got a browning xbolt in 6.5 creedmore. Love both but as u can see there is a pattern. 6.5!
