Texas is ranked 3rd but is a 5-seed due to two lower ranked conference champions automatically taking up first round byes. Clemson is the 12 seed. Texas vs Clemson is legit; 5 vs 12 for first round games.
I guess the checkerboard math was actually pretty accurate. 
The 12 seed has an easier path than the 9 seed. Wow.

I love all the hate for ND. lol. They done what they needed to do to get in the playoffs, win. lol. Now I will admit with the CBS deal ND sees a little bias. But they did a good job of winning their schedule. Since the committee don't care about SOS I don't either! lol.
I find how many guys think Tn has a bias against them hilarious. lol. I don't think anyone anything's TN they have been a none factor since the 90's? If you want to see bias look no farther than AL they had it for the last 15 years. Especially with Saban on ESPN. He got his voice out more than any college coach of his era. And people were swayed by what he said.
SMU I guess they didn't get punished too much for the championship loss. They're still in without a quality win. Unlike Alabama.
I really think getting the conference championship auto bid will do really good things for evening out the conferences! I love the auto bid.

Tennessee definitely has it all in front on them now. Just beat OSU, then you get your shot at the #1 team to make your statement.

I think the CFP committee did a decent job with the rules set in place. Yes it sucks seeing boise state & Arizona state in the top 4, but the committee had to follow the rules they get Auto bids. Same with a 3 loss Clemson. No choice, but to put them in. I think they did right by not pushing the Championship losers down and awarding teams that set at home as well.

I think ND did well this year, but they'd probably still be there even if they didn't. In the eyes of the media, they never have a back team, just bad games.

One thing the playoff has accomplished is to make the other bowl games kinda garbage. I'm not seeing any decent matchups.

Correct, reason you can't slide in a team what didn't WIN enough to even make it to a championship game. That couldn't get a WIN over vandy and a bad OK team.
Because good teams find away to beat Vandy & Oklahoma.

Hahaha full time nfl guru now that the Bammers are outI don't know if the game will be any good, but the meltdown from Bandwagon Nation on social media after finding out alabama is going to the ReliaQuest Bowl has been glorious to watch. Almost as entertaining as watching The View after Trump won the election.
