Heard a few distant gobbles on the roost so I decided to sit in a heavily scratched area where I called one up two weekends ago but didn't have a clear shot. Was pretty silent for a while then I heard a gobble across the creek.
I rushed across the creek and did some light calling with no answer. Had a hen fly up into a tree to get a better look that busted me.
After sitting a while in silence, I decide to give it 30 min before moving on to a new spot. I do a few yelps with the crystal mistress and hear nothing. About 10 min later I hear a gobble. They didn't really respond to calling but were fairly close.
I start cutting on my Dawkins aluminum and it was like a light switch. Had two toms come in within 2 min of cutting. It took me a while to get a shot that was clear enough not to hit both. I let the closest one have it. Weighed 20 pounds with thin 11 inch beard and 1 inch hooks. It sure is nice when they cooperate.
